Trade expert Kristen Hopewell warns that Trump is undermining rules based trade that has brought economic prosperity to US and the world.  Instead he brings back law of the jungle by pursuing one-on-one deals with each country in divide and conquer strategy.  With no incentive to play by rules, he could simply violate deals in the future.  She proposes kicking US out of World trade organization and restoring international court to adjudicate disputes in global trade.  Fallout from Trump trade war has yet to reach consumers.  But when that happens, it's going to be a economic shock for the US.

TACO BOY kicked the can down the road again with his "big announcement" that he's going to put 100 percent tariffs on Russia if there isn't a Russia-Ukraine deal soon. These tariffs are on any country doing business with Russia & most likely not be implemented in his 50 day deadline.

The Covfefe Kingpin claims to have a tariff deal with Britain, but it still hasn't been finalized.

He announced a deal with Vietnam weeks ago, but Vietnam is yet to acknowledge it and no-one's seen the text.

And now he's announcing a "deal" with Indonesia, but no-one has seen details.

His "form" letters don't seem to be working.

The primary reason Trumps tariffs are bad is because none have any clue what he even wants to achieve - because the goal keeps changing and none of his declared goals make a lot of sense when compared to what he is doing - so how on earth are an opposition supposed to answer to the threats in any meaningful way - and what is even the idea of striking a deal - it is basically not worth the paper it is written on as long as the idiot is in charge

So you get all the negative effects of tariffs but none of the positives they normally come with - and tariffs doesn’t normally come with a lot of positive effects  to begin with - it is when your girl goes on a tantrum blaming you for everything and nothing you do is good enough  - then you leave the bitch alone to figure it out herself (Trump and US are that bitch)

New Yorkers know Trump best and many refuse to do business with him.  He has a history of fraud and cannot be trusted to honor deals.  Besides, countries don't like to negotiate with terrorists because that may encourage them to make more demands.  Tariffs usually serve two purposes.  Protecting domestic industry and raising revenue for government.  But some domestic industries aren't worth protecting.  US would be better off with cheap imports instead of expensive local goods.  Also income tax is more efficient in raising revenue than tariffs.

General motors report over $1 billion loss in second quarter and expected $4-5 billion loss in 2025.  Contrary to Trump's claim, Americans pay for higher tariffs.  Now lower profits for companies but later higher prices for consumers.  Also tariffs can make future US goods less competitive in selling to international markets.  North American free trade deal allowed US automakers to benefit from lower costs from Canada and Mexico.

The countries that have reached tariffs deals with the US...so far......Japan 15% .. the U.K., 10%  Vietnam 20%, Indonesia  19% and the Philippines 19%, along with a preliminary pact with China that led to a pause in some steep tariffs until at least Aug. 12.

Tariffs on steel, aluminum and copper were raised in June to 50% - Canada is the biggest supplier of steel and aluminum to the United States

The Trump administration and E.U. officials were nearing a deal that featured a 15% rate for import taxes.

GM reported a net income of $1.89 billion for the second quarter, down from $2.93 billion in the same quarter last year, pushing the automaker’s stock down 6.5% after markets opened on Tuesday.

The company said it planned to mitigate the tariffs by “manufacturing adjustments, targeted cost initiatives, and consistent pricing,” but also noted that the Q2 earnings still reflected “minimal mitigation offsets.”

In its letter to shareholders, GM CEO Mary Barra touted the company’s 4 billion investment in U.S. assembly plants in Michigan, Kansas, and Tennessee—shifting production of an estimated 2 million vehicles previously manufactured in Mexico in a move the company says will also reduce their tariff exposure

In other news; 

General Motors (GM) announced on Tuesday that it will begin production of the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado LD, and GMC Sierra LD at its Lake Orion Assembly facility in 2027.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer praised the announcement as a result of Michigan’s ongoing efforts to create a strong business climate, support union jobs, and keep high-paying manufacturing work within the state.

The production shift is part of GM’s broader commitment to invest $4 billion over the next two years in its U.S. manufacturing operations.

Way to go Trump!!!

US hasn't yet experienced the full impact of tariffs because of Trump's extending of deadlines.  Before tariffs are supposed to start, companies increased their purchases and inventories.  So the worst is yet to come. Economists expect lower economic growth with higher inflation and unemployment. No way tariffs are as efficient as income tax in raising revenue for government.  Also income tax is fairer because high income earners pay more while low income earners pay less.  However low income earners are more likely to be affected by high prices and tariffs.

 Who pays for these extra tariffs? Is it the corps? I thought conservatives were pretty much pro capitalism to any lengths and means?

Gotta just laugh at the magas that think the country is making 113 billion and all of us arent going to pay for that 113 billion.  My God the maga crew are brainless sheep.  Just doesnt matter what they are told, they believe its true.  All because the greatest human being in the history of the world told them that

Yeah, I could understand it if it were a foreign concept, but tariffs are literally just taxes. If you know how taxes work, then you know how tariffs work! They redistribute wealth within your country, from consumers to the government. Here's the kicker: It will always do this, even if you make deals with the whole world. It won't cost us anything (apart from lost export - but that doesn’t funnel money into your economy). Your tariffs' revenues are just statements telling us how much you bought from us. How wild is that? They won't do anything about getting jobs there because they want you to pay tariffs and we won’t move production - because we couldn’t even do that if we wanted before the clown is out of office (it takes years to move factories)

 I will give Trump that it is wild he has been able to raise taxes (nothing else) and still have such a high % in the population praising that - I am pretty sure that is a world first 

I look forward to see how he will sell the concept - when we put counter tariffs on - and your international export plummets 

For what it's worth my tea from Yunnan is the same price today as it was in January, so who's to say who pays what.

The web reports tea tariffs from China went from 15% to 7.5% and currently 27.5%.

I can easily tell you that - if you pay the same price as you did before - then the shop you buying at is paying the tariffs - not harder to answer than that  (and over time they will either put that cost on you - raise their other products or layoff people — the CEO still need their Yachts )

BTW off topic - but how thin skinned is Trump OMG that South Park parody was fucking spot on - and in any democracy you can make fun of an elected leader - you guys have turned into a fucking dictatorship - never been more obvious than now
