I will start it off with casino stock info from the April thread....
just for a heads up, MGM reports earnings Monday May 4th and LVS reports Tuesday May 5th, both after the market close.

Congrats on your casino plays---well done. I do read your posts, just don't comment on casinos cause I am always wrong. Doesn't matter the side----I will be wrong. Some things are just like that, period, end of story,

Agree with you that retail could take a dump the next few months as rebate checks are spent and those wise, lucky, smart, prudent and savvy enough to have the means for summer vacations this year aren't going to be buying crap at stores the next few months. Simon Property (SPG) owns the big mall in my s--hole town, and I am sort of thinking that could maybe possibly be a potentially profitable short over the next 3-4 months or so. No one in the parking lot----no one spending a dime.
I still think the overall trend "for now" of the market is more upside than downside, but that is in the late innings, for sure. To me, the easiest and least stressful trade right now is to get long tech on pessimism andpullbacks, and then sell in to hype and hoopla-----won't make you rich, but can make a few pennies and allow you to sleep at night.

I wouldnt sell it with that low cost average..if things settle out they could be a nice takeover candidate, even though their business isnt going so well currently.
My lower DRYS buy is getting close to a triple, but I wont be selling either..not for a long long time.

I'm looking at the SKF. hit an all time low from when it was first started last febuary of 54.28 today. anyone think these financials are really out of the woods yet? esp with the "stress test" results to come? not to mention that the overall market is WAY short term overbought right now.
it's around 54.50 right now and I'm thinking of 500 or 1000 for a trade. market flips, it could move FAST.

also just shorted LVS @ 9.12 and MGM @ 8.90. MGM reports after the close today and LVS tomarrow. big up this morning looks more like another "Scare da Bear" than anything that will last and considering the move they have had, I wouldn't want to hold thru those reports. both companies are STILL going to SUCK, it's just a matter of HOW BAD.

Very low TCE numbers, cancelled the dividend, low coverage percentage for 2009 (53%).
They have no cash and quite a bit of debt relative to market cap and revenues.
Its a gamble but with that low market cap, if they survive they could have a nice return, but on the other hand I could see them going under this or next year if rates dont improve.

Here is my opinion..
I think they close the markets at lower levels than we are currently at.
Not strong enough of a view to establish a short though..

If I were chasing a cheap bulker, I would choose TOPS, but there are better names like EXM or DSX or even the best DRYS which are my choices.

speaking of other DRYS alternates, grapevinekid mentioned ONAV in Hutch's https://www.covers.com/postingforum/post01/showmessage.aspx?spt=86&sub=100444013 thread. their chart looks interesting and they came off the canvas last week. it's also VERY thin with only 12 million+ out

well with everything I heard on this weekends "Nevada Week in Review" PBS show, which usually has pretty good insights on the gaming industry, I was somewhat suprised to see the gamers running today. basicll it was "the business is gonna SUCK for a LONG TIME and MGM and the rest ex for WYNN are still WAY overextended". the one thing that was interesting was that east coast operators like Penn National and Ameristar have been sniffing around the market BUT they would only buy IF they could steal something. same the Steve Wynn in regards to and MGM properties.
that being said, these gamers have turned into "Frankenstein Stocks" the last couple weeks. they just will NOT DIE!!! should be a traders short term "double top" in LVS and there's a huge gap to fill in MGM BUT we will see what happens,
"earnings" after the close today in MGM
