    Amazing stuff....really it was...

The audacity of this fast good giant to just blow the roof of this pitiful excuse for a lunch/dinner item by making it a meal+dessert hybrid.

The result? It is the most popular speciality item in Taco Bell history once again proving humans are little different than the raccoons that rummage through your garbage.

Of course they are free to do it and payfor the 'privilege'...

But, but, the new mc Donald's commercial says everything is fresh and 100% chicken breasts for the nuggets and 100% pure beef

Grab a cheeseburger from McDonald's and have it sit on your desk for a while. Check back 6 weeks later and it will still look like it did the day you bought it. No mold or anything. That worry s me, that it still looks the same as the day you buy it.

What difference would that be if you eat at the same steak house, olive garden, red lobster, etc etc everyday, every meal?    Not much if you ask me.  If anything sit down restaurants are over-proportioned which means you are usually eating more fat and calories than at McDs.

This is what people fail to realize. They think because they eat at Chili's or TGI Fridays that they ate healthier than the person who went to McDonald's. From a young age we are taught to finish our plate so when a restaurant brings out an over-proportioned dish we eat as much as we can. The increase in portion size and what we drink are the two largest causes of obesity.

home = yes for sure 100%. Obviously it can be very unhealthy depending on how you shop but still miles ahead of fast food.

Same thing with restaurants. Some bad ones out there. But much easier to find healthier options if you want. Just takes a little education and effort.

Is your questions serious? I can not tell

I agree. I am not sure that those chain restaurants are much better. And I totally agree with the "cleaning your plate" comment. The concept of cleaning your plate before you can get up from the table or have desert is so backwards. I think that this mentality is changing but no doubt that it is still out there.

Kids, unlike adults, have the unique ability to recognize when they are hungry / full and do not have the inherent mentality to overeat. Therefore, with kids you should always allow them to dictate their portion size and then give snacks throughout the day as needed / requested.

I agree. I am not sure that those chain restaurants are much better. And I totally agree with the "cleaning your plate" comment. The concept of cleaning your plate before you can get up from the table or have desert is so backwards. I think that this mentality is changing but no doubt that it is still out there.

Is your questions serious? I can not tell

I'm guessing McDs has a nice juicy green salad you can order and wash it down with plain iced tea or ice water.  Isn't that healthy even if it's sold at McDs?

My family members only eat protein at home usually cooked in butter.   They don't know what a salad or side of veggies is.  I can't imagine it bejng any better than fast food.

With exercise, I could do that Super Size Me diet. I've got the metabolism for it.

Most things that belong in a freezer are not healthy.  We should go to fridge manufacturers and demand less freezer space.

The condiment drawer and butter drawers need to go also.

TJ you are right in that there are some healthy options anywhere you go. especially now a days. However, my guess is that the direction of the thread is not about the people who swing through McDs / fast food for a nice side salad with a vinagrette dressing.

And you are also correct that any meal can be made unhealthy depending on how it is prepared / cooked.

That is why I mentioned that education and effort are key players in this conversation.

Not sure I agree with that. Some kids would not eat and pass out from starvation.  They will want candies and sweets all day.  I guess you can consider that food also but then that would be the same as an adult eating foods they enjoy but ate unhealthy.

obviously there is some room for parental discretion. I am more referring to the idea of not forcing them to "clean their plate" when they are full.

And when I say snacks I in no way mean candies and sweets. There are many other options that do the trick as well.

That might be some of the problem -- many people might view a snack to be a "treat" as opposed to a host of healthier options.

I have a 4.5 year old so I am right in the "thick of it".  I am not saying that I am right or have all of the answers but I am speaking from an angle of experience.
