The Montreal Alouettes fly into Cowtown on the back end of the home-and-home series to face the -1.5 point favored Calgary Stampeders on Saturday night at McMahon Stadium.
The Alouettes won 37-30 in Montreal on Sunday night, but the game was never as close as the final score would suggest.
My early Alouettes vs. Stampeders predictions and CFL Picks expect another track meet between these two high-flying offences on Saturday, July 18.

Early Alouettes vs Stampeders spread pick: Alouettes +1.5
Coming on the heels of Montreal’s seven-point home victory — that really played more like a two-possession victory in all fairness — I expected to see lines in the area of Montreal -1.5 to -2.5 come Monday morning.
Lo and behold, books seem to have a lot more confidence that the Calgary Stampeders will even the season series on Saturday at McMahon Stadium in Calgary than I do.
The Stampeders are 2-3 on the season to go along with being 2-3 ATS, while the Als are 4-1 while being 3-2 ATS, with one loss being to Edmonton in a monsoon, while the other loss ATS came on a painful last-minute kick return touchdown backdoor cover versus Ottawa.
I think this will be a highly entertaining and closely played game, but Montreal is just too strong on both sides of the ball to be an underdog to a sub .500 Stampeders squad — even on the road.
In the first battle of the Philpot brothers, Tyson Philpot projected for 8.3 receptions for 106.9 yards and 0.68 TDs and delivered 9 receptions for 132 yards and a TD — prop Overs that my model loved across the board.
Jalen Philpot was projected for 5 receptions for 65.7 yards and 0.36 TDs and delivered 3 receptions for 66 yards and was held out of the end zone.
If anything, my model likes Tyson’s prospects a little more and Jalen’s a little less this week.
I’d lean Montreal, and the +1.5-point cushion, and I would be willing to play alt-lines up to Montreal -2.5 if the opportunity arises.

Early Alouettes vs Stampeders total pick: Over 62.5
Following a 67-point shootout in Montreal on Saturday night, the Montreal Alouettes and Calgary Stampeders project to play the second-highest-paced game on the slate this weekend, with my model projecting a combined 112.53 offensive plays for the game.
Montreal and Calgary are averaging a whopping 72.8 combined points per game this season (Montreal 34/Calgary 38.8) as two of the three highest scoring teams in the league.
Seeing my model project the teams for a combined 861.1 yards of total offence is just one more signal that pushes me to the Over on this game, even at a current line of 62.5.
The pace and scoring this season in the CFL feel like it has to come back down to more historically supported levels, but I don’t think this game will be the regression point.
I’d be comfortable playing this line all the way up to 64.5.
