Mystics vs Wings Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Two teams that badly need wins to stay in the postseason race will face off tonight as the Dallas Wings host the Washington Mystics.

My analysis
The Washington Mystics and Dallas Wings have suffered through surprisingly similar seasons in 2024. They have identical records, and each have gone 4-6 in their last 10 as they try to make their respective playoff pushes. 

One thing separates these teams, however, and that's the outcome of the two meetings.

The Mystics came out on top in both games, winning both ends of a back-to-back in Washington in June by 28 and eight points, respectively. Playing into Dallas’ defensive weaknesses, the Mystics were able to score over 90 points each game.

What’s worrisome for Dallas is there’s not a single player it needs to stop in order to slow down this onslaught. The Mystics had four players who scored at least 13 points in the first game, followed by five scoring in double figures the next night.

It’s possible oddsmakers think the Mystics will be weakened somewhat tonight without Shakira Austin. The Washington big woman has been out since August 26 after suffering a left ankle injury, the latest injury for the young talent who has struggled to stay on the court as a professional.

Austin's 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game aren't easy to replace. However, she's only played in 11 games this season, and she missed both games Washington played against Dallas — which didn’t seem to slow down the Mystics then. 

And it’s not as though the Mystics have been significantly better when Austin has been on the court, as they’ve gone just 2-9 in those 11 games.   

Despite Washington’s earlier success against Dallas, bookmakers have installed the Wings as the clear favorites tonight. While Dallas should have a better shot at hanging with the Mystics at home, I can’t see a reason why they should be giving this many points to a team that, at worst, is on equal footing with them, and might just have their number.
