Official game rules: How to play
To avoid "referee" disputes mid-game, we recommend establishing these simple rules before kickoff:
-
Distribution: Give each guest one card and a marker (pens work, but stickers or candy like M&Ms are better for re-using cards). If you have more guests than cards, have people team up and compete against other duos or trios.
-
The Center Square: Every player gets the center square – the "Free Space" – for free.
-
Verification: Designate a "Judge" to confirm when an event happens, or to adjudicate outcomes like the length of the national anthem.
-
Winning: The first person to complete a row – horizontally, vertically, or diagonally – shouts “BINGO!”
Party variations & prize ideas
If you want to raise the stakes, try these common variations:
-
The "Blackout": Instead of a single line, the game continues until someone fills their entire card. This usually lasts until late in the 4th quarter.
-
Extra free squares: At the end of every scoring play, ask a Super Bowl trivia question; the correct respondent earns an additional free square of his or her choice.
-
Prize pool: Have everyone chip in $5 toward a winner-take-all pot, or offer themed prizes like a case of beer, an Uber Eats gift card, or a team hat.
Super Bowl Bingo FAQ
Most hosts start the game during the National Anthem. Make sure everyone has their cards in hand 10 minutes before the scheduled kickoff.
Yes! If Sam Darnold completes a 30-yard pass to Cooper Kupp for a TD, you can mark both "Darnold 20+ yard pass" and "Touchdown: Cooper Kupp".
In the event of a tie, the prize is typically split, or you can have a "tie-breaker" based on who can guess the next play's yardage.
