Kyle LaRusic

Betting Analyst

5+ Years Experience
NHL NFL

Kyle LaRusic joined Covers in 2020 with a Holland College diploma in Journalism and a Mount Saint Vincent Degree in Public Relations. Stints at Amherst News and the Cape Breton Post helped sharpen his skills in a newsroom setting, while working for MSVU and Dalhousie’s athletic departments landed Kyle in his comfort zone.

Kyle has been an avid bettor for over five years, starting with just one Sports Interaction account before discovering both the beauty and importance of price shopping. bet365 and Pinnacle are his go to books, but accounts at 10+ sportsbooks give him an array of options. “Rusty” will bet on anything under the sun as long as there’s value and good reasoning behind it, but NHL and NFL are his two favorite leagues to watch and wager on — especially with friends.

Kyle’s biggest tip for any bettor is simple: gamble responsibly. Only bet what you’re willing to lose and make sure to install a proper bankroll method to keep track of your ROI. If you’re still dwelling on the amount you lost the next day, it’s time to decrease your spending.

What makes Kyle LaRusic an expert?

"Rusty" has been making bets and handicapping hockey for over six years, following both the NHL and NFL particularly close. Kyle likes to take both a statistical approach to his handicapping while also paying close attention to matchups.

Q&A with Kyle

What drew you to sports betting?

When it came to sports I always felt I was the smartest guy in the room. I saw sports betting as a way to put my smarts to the test and make some cash while doing so. I soon learned that although profitable, I am not the smartest guy in the room.

What is your favorite sports to bet on?

Hockey is always a blast, but there's no better rush than having a full betslip heading into a Sunday full of NFL games. Touchdown parlays forever have my heart.

What's the best advice you can give to new sports bettors?

Only bet what you're willing to lose. If you're still thinking about a loss the next day, it's time to lower your bet size.

Kyle's memories

🚀 Big wins

I made a nine-team parlay on MLK day back in 2020 and a 60 piece from Damian Lillard won me the last leg in OT against the Warriors. I've been chasing that high ever since.

😭 Bad beat?

There have been too many to count, but I picked P.J. Tucker to score Over 6.5 points only for him to score two. That definitely stung.

Eric has been involved in sports media in many different capacities since graduating from journalism school in 1999, back when getting your own column in a newspaper was still considered a thing. He doubled down and graduated from broadcast journalism school five years later, which led to a move to Toronto and a career with The Sports Network (TSN). From behind-the-scenes production work, he moved into the digital realm, where he had his own hoops column (At the Buzzer), while regularly live streaming and chatting with fans during broadcasts as the character known as LeBlog James. He was also a key contributor to TSN and CTVs Olympic programming during the 2012 London Games. Eric eventually found his way into the sports betting field in 2016 and has been a mainstay ever since. He was tagged on Twitter as a Top 10 NBA sharp during the 2021 season and has been interviewed about basketball and his handicapping process on shows from Vancouver to India. Eric is now a jack-of-all-sports at Covers, where his predictions span the alphabet soup: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, F1, WNBA, Euro, and Copa. Nick Galaida is a failed high school pitcher who attended Baldwin Wallace University, where he figured out he's better at analyzing sports than playing them. Following a brief stint in corporate consulting after graduation, he left for the betting industry and hasn't looked back. Over the last 10 years, he's contributed to Phil Steele, RotoGrinders, FTN, Action Network, VegasInsider, PropBomb, FantasyLabs, and Pickswise. To his friends, he's better known as "The Commish." He covers MLB, NBA, NFL, college football, and the WNBA. When he's not making a bet or writing about one, he's usually nose-deep in a book further illustrating that his niche in this world is as a nerd rather than an athlete. Nick prefers betting at Novig and Kalshi and believes prediction markets are the future of the industry, mostly because exchanges don't punish winners.
