The Pittsburgh Pirates enter the day as Batters-Box's highest rated offense, posting an average hitter matchup rating of 0.514 against Jameson Taillon. Six Pirates hitters grade out as elite, with five expected to bat from the left side, where Taillon has been crushed all season. Over his last 60 left handed batters faced, he owns a 9.75 ERA while allowing a .402 xBA, .807 xSLG, and .447 wOBA. Taillon has also struggled overall recently, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across his last three starts. Expect Pittsburgh to put pressure on him from the opening inning.

Ashcraft relies on chase (37.2%, 96th percentile), yet he draws a Chicago Cubs lineup that rarely expands the zone and owns an 11% walk rate. Taillon's fly-ball profile is better protected at PNC Park, especially with Pete Crow-Armstrong's +20 Outs Above Average patrolling center, while Pittsburgh's corner outfield defense sits at a combined -8 OAA. Add in a Pirates lineup that chases enough to feed Taillon's sweeper, and I play the Cubs to -105 today.

I like the Over here, and I'd play it to -135. It's the only direction you can go if you feel the Yankees cover because Warren won't be spotless.
Sanchez’s recent issue has been contact volume, and the Yankees are a good option to expose that. Their 9.7% barrel rate and 135 home runs give them a direct path if his July command or location issues continue.
Warren brings the Philly side into play. His 4.50 xERA and .415 xSLG are a problem against a lineup with a 9% barrel rate and .411 xSLG.

I'm zagging from my season-long general outlook of fading New York Yankees arm Will Warren. At least a tad. It may seem like an odd time to do it with Philadelphia Phillies arm Christopher Sanchez on the mound, but we have to look at what's happening presently.
Sanchez is still excellent, but July has been rough: a 7.47 ERA + 1.98 WHIP across 16 innings. He has already matched last year's 31 barrels allowed, and his barrel rate has jumped from 5.7% to 8.4%. You don't need me to tell you that New York is built to succeed against that. Play to -150.

Okamoto's hitting profile perfectly matches up well against Imanaga’s stuff. The Cubs starter throws a heavy dose of the fastball and gets barreled up at a 10.4% rate. The Jays third baseman barrels the ball better than anyone in the Blue Jays lineup with a 13.5% barrel rate, while owning a 63.2% hard hit rate against the four-seamer.
Swanson is just 1-for-6 against Cease in his career. Cease has electric stuff, leading the American League with 110 Ks, while ranking in the 97th percentile in K-rate. Springer is turning a corner with a 1.089 OPS over his last nine games.

The two clubs have also trended to the Over, and I'm particularly expecting White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay to struggle considering he's saddled with the fifth-highest xERA in baseball among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings this year.

The Braves have dropped five of six while averaging just 2.8 runs per game and ranking 29th in wOBA without Ronald Acuna Jr. (hamstring), and it’s been a smoke-and-mirrors start for veteran lefty Martin Perez, and there’s serious statistical correction ahead of his .230 BABIP and 80.2% strand rate considering they’re both high-end marks about pitchers with at least 60 innings this season. San Francisco is just the offense to kick-start the regression, too. The Giants are pacing the majors in wOBA and fourth in xwOBA over the past 30 days, after all.
