Hunter Goodman enters Sunday in an excellent spot to go yard against Tyle Mahle. Goodman has an elite Batters-Box rating, and across 30 elite ratings this season, he has homered over 23% of the time. Mahle has struggled against right-handed hitters, allowing over a 52% hard-hit and elevation rate while owning a .391 xBA and .604 xSLG. Goodman has also been swinging a hot bat, posting a .583 SLG, .652 xSLG and .305 ISO over his last 10 games, along with a 45% hard-hit rate and 16% barrel rate. He also owns a near 20% barrel rate over his last 30 at-bats against right-handed pitchers.
Willson Contreras has done damage vs. right-handed pitching this season with 19 dingers and a .513 SLG – placing him in the top 25 in both categories across the majors.
Nine of Contreras’ 23 home runs have come against the sinker, which Will Warren throws about 27% of the time.
Today could very well be the day Vladdy hits his first home run at home. He's hit three off Gilbert in his career already, and owns a .721 OPS during day games. Let's give our guy one more chance to climb out of this hole.
George Springer owns a .839 OPS in August for the Toronto Blue Jays, and has played a huge role in their run to the Wild Card. He's registered eight hits (two homers, two extra-base hits) over his last four games and is on another level right now.
Relative to his season outputs against Framber Valdez’ pitch mix, Teoscar Hernandez' exit velocity is up 3.3 MPH while his hard hit rate has spiked 7.9% over the last 25 at bats.
He's taken high-end southpaws like Chris Sale and Payton Tolle at least 350 feet this month. He’s been knocking on the door, and this is a nice price.
Tyler Glasnow has suppressed runs effectively against struggling offenses, and the Los Angeles Dodgers have a bullpen that sits seventh in xERA this month backing him up. There is no easy path to scoring for the Detroit Tigers.
Framber Valdez forced a ground ball rate of 60.2% over the past month, making it difficult to hit for power – as evident by his 0.57 HR/9.
I’d play this to 56%.
Ryan Vilade finds himself in a boom spot this afternoon against Padres southpaw Robbie Ray. Vilade has been seeing the ball extremely well, with eight of his last 10 batted balls above 90.3 MPH and five above 100.7 MPH. Over his last 10 games, he owns a .667 SLG, .703 xSLG and .292 ISO, along with a 64.7% hard-hit rate and 17.6% barrel rate. Ray has struggled against right-handed hitters, allowing a nearly 17% barrel rate, 62.5% elevation rate and 2.46 HR/9 over his last 30 faced. Vilade's recent quality of contact makes this an intriguing spot.
Parker Messick has been outstanding during his rookie season, establishing himself as a strikeout machine. However, this afternoon presents a difficult matchup for him to clear 5.5 strikeouts against a Kansas City Royals lineup that makes plenty of contact and rarely strikes out. The Royals have also been on a heater offensively, posting a 17.4% strikeout rate, 145 wRC+ and .863 OPS over their last 12 games. They continue to limit strikeouts against left-handed pitching as well. With the matchup working against Messick, I prefer taking the under 5.5 strikeouts.
Kody Clemens has been the top source of power for the Minnesota Twins in August. He’s paced the team with a 10.9% barrel rate, a 48.4% hard hit rate, and an impressive .517 xSLG.
I like this spot against a bullpen that is overworked and has allowed the fifth most barrels this season.
Relief pitching tends to be volatile, and it’s hard to imagine arm after arm coming in and pitching cleanly for the Chicago White Sox against a Minnesota Twins offense that – forget handedness – sits fifth in xwOBA this month.
Zebby Matthews owns a 5.04 ERA and has allowed nearly two home runs per nine innings. It’s difficult for him to get out of games unscathed.
Play to 56%.
Despite being put on waivers, Luis Robert has been crushing the baseball. In his last 30 plate appearances against right-handed pitching, he owns a .304 BA, .739 SLG, 1.172 OPS, and 22% barrel rate.
Pecko has only faced 19 left-handed hitters so far this season, but those hitters have a .579 SLG and 1.019 OPS.
If Robert wants to show his worth to the rest of the league, he needs to continue to mash.
The Mets should be able to put up some runs against Peko, but with how well Thornton has been pitching, runs look to be at a premium this afternoon.
Both lineups over their last 12 games own a wRC+ under 81, a wOBA under .266 and an OPS below .680. Neither is making a lot of hard contact or barreling the ball up.
Asking these two cold offenses to produce nine-plus runs feels like a lot. Under.
Coby Mayo has been crushing the ball over his last 10 games, posting a .583 SLG, .652 xSLG and .305 ISO, while generating nearly 60% hard-hit and over 20% barrel rate. This afternoon marks his 20th elite rating of the season on Batters-Box, where he has homered in 31.58% of his previous 19 elite-rated games. Mayo has also been on fire against left-handed pitching, posting a .786 SLG and .429 ISO over his last 60 plate appearances. Jeffrey Springs has struggled against right-handed hitters, allowing a .617 xSLG. With Mayo consistently generating elite contact, a home run is firmly in play.
After crushing three home runs in one game, Pete Crow-Armstrong would typically be a player to fade. However, he carries an elite rating on Batters-Box against Reds starter Chase Burns, making him an intriguing option once again. Burns has struggled against left-handed hitters recently, allowing a 57% hard-hit rate, 19% barrel rate and 66.7% elevation rate over his last 30 faced. Those hitters also own a .298 xBA, .656 xSLG and .423 wOBA. Crow-Armstrong has been crushing the ball, posting a .762 SLG, .476 ISO and 14% barrel rate. If the home run scares you, take the bases.
What a better stage for Sal Stewart to cement his Rookie of the Year candidacy than on Sunday Night Baseball? The Red sees his matchup fit directly into Imanaga’s primary weakness.
Imanaga throws his four-seamer 41.4% of the time and has allowed a .452 xSLG with a 43.5% hard-hit rate on the pitch. Stewart projects for a .348 xwOBA against four-seamers in this matchup and has already homered in both games of this series. With Imanaga’s fly-ball profile and favorable conditions at Wrigley, Stewart is my preferred Cincinnati home run target.
The Braves have dropped five of six while averaging just 2.8 runs per game and ranking 29th in wOBA without Ronald Acuna Jr. (hamstring), and it’s been a smoke-and-mirrors start for veteran lefty Martin Perez, and there’s serious statistical correction ahead of his .230 BABIP and 80.2% strand rate considering they’re both high-end marks about pitchers with at least 60 innings this season. San Francisco is just the offense to kick-start the regression, too. The Giants are pacing the majors in wOBA and fourth in xwOBA over the past 30 days, after all.
Our experts and prediction models are hard at work analyzing the data. Check back shortly for today's picks, or explore our Computer Picks for inspiration.
MLB picks are bet suggestions based on our computer's assessment of the game. Tons of betting data goes into a computer pick, including pitching matchups, injury reports, analytics, and even recent betting trends.
You can use the tables above to help with your bets during the MLB season. The first section includes free, computer-generated picks for daily Major League Baseball games. Baseball bettors can choose to follow the computer, fade the computer, or simply use our computer picks as one element of their betting strategy.
This page also tees up access to deeper betting trends. For example, if a club's run line is favored, you can check their ATS trends, potentially opening up some quality underdog bets.
If you're ready to get started with MLB betting, visit our dedicated page highlighting the best MLB betting sites.
This is the most common and easiest wager for a bettor to make when it comes to MLB picks. Basically, to win an MLB moneyline pick, you just have to choose which team will win the game.
It's simple: if you bet the White Sox moneyline over the Red Sox and Chicago wins, you win your bet.
The run line is another name for a point spread that you may be more familiar with in NBA and NFL betting. A point spread varies in the NFL and NBA from as little as 0.5 points up to double-digit spreads. A baseball run line is almost always a 1.5-point spread.
The favorite will be -1.5 while the underdog will be +1.5. At the end of the game, if you take away 1.5 runs from the favorite or add 1.5 runs to the underdog and they end up winning the game, you win your MLB pick against the spread.
Another common wager is to bet on the total in baseball, which is a bet on the total runs scored in the baseball game. You are simply choosing whether the final score will be Over or Under that total. Betting the Over/Under on a matchup is a great way to get started in MLB score predictions.
A new and emerging MLB betting market is the NRFI/YRFI bet. These are quick-hitters in which you make a wager on the O/U total of the first inning, typically set at 0.5 runs. Thus, the bet is coined as No Run First Inning or Yes Run First Inning. No need to wait a couple of hours to cash a bet when it could be done in 20 minutes or less.
The above options, moneyline, run line, and Over/Under, can also be placed on the first five innings of a game rather than the full game. Many experienced bettors will use this approach because, typically, this will take bullpens out of the equation and make your job researching the game easier. After all, you can just focus on the starting pitchers.
If you want to combine multiple games into one mega wager, you may consider making a parlay bet. A parlay is when you pick two or more MLB games on one single betting ticket, which will increase the payout of your bet.
But it also comes with more risk, as each of those MLB picks must hit for your ticket to pay out. Our parlay calculator is a great tool to find out what your potential payout would be.
If you're looking for more MLB picks content, check out our consensus picks and prop bets pages to get your fix. While you're at it, head over to our MLB promos page to get the best bang for your buck.
Player props are a great way to hone in on an individual matchup for a game. These types of wagers will be individualized for a player: Will Shohei Ohtani hit a home run? Will Gerrit Cole get seven strikeouts? Will Paul Skenes allow two earned runs?
You simply choose whether this outcome will happen or not. Keeping up to date on daily pitching matchups and batters on a hot streak can give you a huge boost when placing player prop bets.
Lastly, prior to the season and even throughout the season, you can place futures bets on all the long-term awards and outcomes. You can lock in an MLB pick on who will win their division, which squad will win the World Series, or even who will win the Rookie of the Year, MVP, or Cy Young.
