Nick Lodolo is a perfect dinger target today. He's allowed six homers across 16+ innings since returning from the IL as he adjusts to a new curveball grip because of a recurring blister issue. His 3.31 HR/9 in August is the fifth-worst mark among starters for the month, and his 8.29 xERA might be a sign that he hasn't simply been unlucky of late. Fernando Tatis Jr. is the best right-handed hitter in this San Diego lineup and gets the advantage of a great HR park with temperatures reaching 91 degrees today. The Padres outfielder has a .961 OPS against lefties, while his .588 slugging percentage against them ranks among the Top 10 marks in baseball this year. I'll play this to 27% tonight and think the Padres can stack some runs in a great setting against a pitcher struggling to find his game after the blister issue.

Since the All-Star break, Springer is slashing .323/.381/.511 and enters today with a plus matchup against Cleveland Guardians starter Gavin Williams. Across nine at-bats, Springer has recorded four hits and a double, and is rocking a .433 wOBA.

Roman Anthony has been crushing the baseball since returning from injury, with four of his last eight batted balls leaving the bat at over 101 mph. The Boston Red Sox slugger draws Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo, who has struggled on the road against left-handed hitters. Woo is allowing a 46% hard-hit rate and a 66.4% elevation rate in that split, while hitters have posted nearly a 70% hard-hit rate, a 13.6% barrel rate and a 72.7% elevation rate over his last 30 batters faced. With Anthony covering nearly 90% of Woo’s pitch mix, tonight sets up well.

The Red Sox have yet to announce their starter, but that does not matter with Bryan Woo taking the mound for Seattle. Woo has struggled mightily away from home, sporting a sub-6.00 ERA and 1.36 WHIP while allowing a hard-hit rate over 46%. Meanwhile, Seattle’s offense remains ice cold, posting a 57 wRC+, .246 wOBA, 30.6% strikeout rate, .534 OPS and .119 ISO over its last six games. Boston’s recent numbers are not much better, but over its last 12 games, the Red Sox have a sub-19% strikeout rate, .731 OPS, 104 wRC+ and .326 wOBA. The Red Sox are the play.

This might not be the only White Sox batter on my home run card. Ronel Blanco is back in the Big Leagues, and among pitchers with at least 20 innings this season, he owns the fifth-worst HR/9 at 2.7 and the 11th-worst HR/FB rate at 23.3%. He also gave up 10 runs and three dingers in his last Triple-A start. He's in perfect dinger form. I'm skipping Tristan Peters because of the pinch-hit risk and Munetaka Murakami because of his recent form, and taking Colson Montgomery at a price well above three dollars. He sits one homer shy of 30 and went deep last night against the Houston bullpen, which is also missing four arms today. Montgomery's power numbers over the last two weeks rank behind only Peters, who has been on a mission. Ultimately, getting a 30-homer guy in the best home run matchup on the board at this price is value town. I have the fair probability around 24-25%.

There's a lot to unpack here, and a lot of it comes down to having no interest in the Astros today. First, the starting pitching matchup is much further apart than this line suggests. Ronel Blanco is not an MLB-caliber starter and just gave up 10 runs while recording only seven outs in his last Triple-A start. He currently owns the fourth-worst ERA in baseball among pitchers with at least 20 innings, along with the fifth-worst HR/9. Making matters worse for Blanco, the Houston bullpen is taxed. The Astros are down four arms today, including high-leverage relievers Bryan Abreu and Steven Okert. The White Sox, meanwhile, had a Top-7 bullpen last month and have all but one arm available. Finally, per Kevin Roth, a tropical storm is heading toward Houston today. I would think that situation could weigh more heavily on the home team, with roots and families in the area, than the visiting club. I have Chicago as a 57% favorite today.

We have a pair of aces coming off their best starts of the season against two offenses in the bottom 12 for wRC+. Smells like an Under to me. While Jesus Luzardo is coming off a seven-inning shutout, Eduardo Rodriguez has thrown 12 2/3 straight scoreless innings. Both thrive in this specific matchup, too, with Luzardo limiting this DBacks offense to a .293 xwOBA, and the Phillies owning just a .230 xBA against Rodriguez. Worried about Kyle Schwarber here? He's hitless in eight at-bats against Rodriguez, striking out four times. Don't overthink this one.

Jesús Luzardo is one of the toughest starting pitchers in the National League, and he features a nasty sweeper that carries a +20 run value and a 47.9% whiff rate this season. That being said, Luzardo's sweeper is an absolute weapon against left-handed hitters, but it loses some of its effectiveness against right-handed bats. The Arizona Diamondbacks are likely to feature a lineup with Corbin Carroll as their only left-handed hitter, limiting the impact of Luzardo's best weapon. On the other side, the Phillies' two most dangerous hitters, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, don't have an advantageous matchup either. They'll face lefty Eduardo Rodriguez, who can fade his changeup away from the barrels of their bats. The Diamondbacks are trading at 45% on Polymarket, but I make them closer to a 49% underdog, which is why I'm hitting the button.

This is the most common and easiest wager for a bettor to make when it comes to MLB picks. Basically, to win an MLB moneyline pick, you just have to choose which team will win the game.
It's simple: if you bet the White Sox moneyline over the Red Sox and Chicago wins, you win your bet.
The run line is another name for a point spread that you may be more familiar with in NBA and NFL betting. A point spread varies in the NFL and NBA from as little as 0.5 points up to double-digit spreads. A baseball run line is almost always a 1.5-point spread.
The favorite will be -1.5 while the underdog will be +1.5. At the end of the game, if you take away 1.5 runs from the favorite or add 1.5 runs to the underdog and they end up winning the game, you win your MLB pick against the spread.
Another common wager is to bet on the total in baseball, which is a bet on the total runs scored in the baseball game. You are simply choosing whether the final score will be Over or Under that total. Betting the Over/Under on a matchup is a great way to get started in MLB score predictions.
A new and emerging MLB betting market is the NRFI/YRFI bet. These are quick-hitters in which you make a wager on the O/U total of the first inning, typically set at 0.5 runs. Thus, the bet is coined as No Run First Inning or Yes Run First Inning. No need to wait a couple of hours to cash a bet when it could be done in 20 minutes or less.
The above options, moneyline, run line, and Over/Under, can also be placed on the first five innings of a game rather than the full game. Many experienced bettors will use this approach because, typically, this will take bullpens out of the equation and make your job researching the game easier. After all, you can just focus on the starting pitchers.
If you want to combine multiple games into one mega wager, you may consider making a parlay bet. A parlay is when you pick two or more MLB games on one single betting ticket, which will increase the payout of your bet.
