Manchester United looks to bounce back from a gut-wrenching midweek defeat on Sunday when the Red Devils host Liverpool at Old Trafford. The Premier League odds have the visitors established as strong favorites.

The calls for Erik ten Hag’s job got much louder this week, as Man United lost to Chelsea after conceding two goals deep in stoppage time. Now he’s got yet another injury crisis, with only two true central defenders fully fit, and the club’s hopes of achieving Champions League next season are on life support.

Liverpool enters the weekend atop the table, and they know they need every point possible down the stretch if they match the Red Devils and win their 20th top-flight title. They will want to avenge their FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Old Trafford a few weeks ago, and get their first win at the Theater of Dreams since 2021.

Our Manchester United vs Liverpool soccer picks and predictions for Sunday, April 8 breaks down the biggest rivalry in England and tells you why set pieces present a terrific path to profit.

EPL predictions for Manchester United vs Liverpool

Liverpool and Manchester United’s two previous meetings this season couldn’t have been more different from a tactical standpoint. But that’s a key reason why we’re backing Liverpool to get plenty of corners against the Red Devils on Sunday.

The first meeting was the reverse fixture, where ten Hag set his side up to defend at all costs and get a result. And to his credit, it somehow worked. They escaped Anfield with a 0-0 draw, withstanding 34 shots and 12 corners from the Reds.

When the two sides met in the FA Cup three weeks ago, many — myself included — predicted a similar setup. Instead, ten Hag threw caution to the wind and pushed bodies forward while playing a high line. This led to a basketball-type feel with back-and-forth action, as Man United equalized late to force extra time and eventually won with a goal in the 120th minute.

Liverpool managed another 25 shots in that fixture, albeit some of those came in the extra half hour. They also attempted eight corners, only one of which came after regulation.

Liverpool have attempted 218 corners this season in the Premier League, trailing only Manchester City and Arsenal. They’ve attempted at least seven in each of the last five matches, reaching double digits in three of those. That includes 13 in the 3-1 win over Sheffield United on Thursday.

That Sheffield United team is the only squad to have conceded more corners this season than Manchester United. They continue to turn the ball over in terrible positions, leading to counterattacks as Andre Onana gets peppered in goal. He’s been outstanding of late, but between his saves and his teammates blocking shots as much as possible, they’ve seen the corner counts going up.

No matter which style Man United goes with, they’ve shown they’re prone to giving corners to Liverpool. With how relentless Jurgen Klopp’s side pressures and shoots, we’ll bank on them doing so again.

TonyBet is offering even-money odds right now, which is much better than what Over 6.5 is getting at other books. That’s why I’m making this a two-unit play for any price of -105 or better, so jump on this while you can.

My best bet: Liverpool team total Over 6.5 corners (+100 at TonyBet)

Manchester United vs Liverpool same-game parlay

Liverpool team total Over 6.5 corners

Luis Diaz Over 2.5 shots

Mohamed Salah Over 2.5 shots

Andre Onana Over 4.5 saves

Our same-game parlay contains three additional legs with heavy correlation to our Liverpool corners.

Mohamed Salah attempted a staggering 12 shots last weekend against Brighton, and has attempted at least three in each of his last five matches. That includes three against Manchester United before being subbed off, and he also posted six in the previous meeting in December. He’s on penalty duty as well, which might come into play here.

Luis Diaz will have Diogo Dalot on his side, as Aaron Wan-Bissaka will flip to the left to deal with Salah. That led to Diaz firing four shots in regulation, marking the seventh time in eight matches he’s had at least three.

All those shots will lead to yet another day of big saves for Onana. He made six saves on Thursday, giving him at least five or more in five of his last six outings. He had eight saves in both matches against Liverpool, and he’s going to get at least five on Sunday.

Manchester United vs Liverpool side and Over/Under analysis

The 3-way moneyline sees Liverpool priced at -160 or more, with a huge shift in the line taking place after Man United blew the match against Chelsea. That same movement saw the draw climb from +330 to +380, while a home victory went from around +300 to as high as +375.

Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans both came off injured against Chelsea, while Casemiro is now in doubt after getting a knock as well. Endo returns to the midfield for Liverpool, strengthening their central defense.

Liverpool know they can’t afford to lose this match, and Man United’s lack of pace in the middle of defense will be exposed by the relentless pressure and pace possessed by the Reds. The visitors should get the win here.

In doing so, I anticipate they’ll go Over the 3.5 total for this match. The Over is favored despite being an elevated number, and it’s continued to shift as more money has come in the past few days with -125 the best price on offer. It’s expected to be wet and windy on Sunday, and that tends to cause some chaos — something that Liverpool thrives on.
