Liverpool vs Everton predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Side analysis

This really is a gigantic game with the repercussions of a loss potentially being disastrous for either side. For Liverpool, a loss would almost certainly hand the Premier League title to Pep Guardiola’s Man City, and for Everton, it would further push them towards relegation with the club going into this weekend just one point clear of Burnley.

Regardless of how their Premier League campaign finishes, this Liverpool team has been sensational. 32 games in and they’re at 76 points, having scored an incredible 83 while conceding just 22. Jurgen Klopp has crafted a magnificent group of players into one of the most exciting teams on the planet. That said, they ultimately will have fallen short this season if they finish the year with only the League Cup in their hands.

Meanwhile, at the opposite end of both Stanley Park and the Premier League table are Everton, with the Toffees battling for survival in the top flight. They entered the weekend just one point clear of Burnley, who themselves are six points clear of Watford. In all honesty, it’s now looking like one of Burnley, Everton, and possibly Leeds get relegated.

Frank Lampard made a brave choice in taking on this job but he’s had a very mixed bag of results so far, perhaps indicating that he’s not the man for a relegation fight. A 1-0 loss at Man City, in which they were robbed of a penalty, was a fantastic performance, as were victories over Newcastle and Man Utd. On the flip side of that, they’ve been turned over 5-0 by Spurs and let Burnley score three goals against them.

Dare I say it, but perhaps Lampard is finally getting his players to improve their levels? In the past two weeks, they’ve beaten Manchester United 1-0 and then drawn 1-1 with a good Leicester team, picking up four important points. Lampard will be without striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is injured yet again, with Richarlison likely to start up top.

The return of Jerry Mina to his defense is a big boost and the Colombian must start against Liverpool. It’s also worth highlighting recent performances from Alex Iwobi, as the former Arsenal player was signed for over £40m, a fee which looked absurd even at the time, but over the past few weeks, he’s looked far better.

Besides Roberto Firmino, there is a clean bill of health for Klopp’s Liverpool team, which means we should see all of their biggest stars. There is a risk of rotation for the likes of Thiago, Sadio Mane, or Mohamed Salah, with Liverpool meeting Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals next week. It’s going to be very interesting to see which team Klopp selects and he needs to be careful to avoid complacency in this game.

Look, I’ll be honest, nine times out of ten this game would be won comfortably by Liverpool. Despite that, I simply can’t recommend betting them at odds of -550. Instead, I’d rather have a very low stake on the draw at huge odds of +650.

With the Champions League next Wednesday and a congested fixture list, I think there is a slight chance that Liverpool drop points here. Everton taking a point from Liverpool would feel like winning the league for them, give Lampard and his team huge confidence, and would likely stop their biggest rivals from winning the Premier League.

I’d only recommend a small stake on this, but back the draw and a twist in the tail for the Premier League title race.

Prediction: Draw (+650 at DraftKings)

Over/Under analysis

I’m backed into a corner with this pick. In their past six games across all competition, Liverpool have scored 17 goals, conceding eight. Besides their past two results, this is an Everton team who have allowed goals all season.

All the stats will be pointing you toward backing the Over 2.5 market here but given I’m backing the draw. If this is to be a tie, then there is no way this game finishes 2-2 or 3-3. It’ll be either scoreless or 1-1, so for that reason, I have to take Under 2.5 goals here at very nice odds of +186.

Prediction: Under 2.5 (+186 at FanDuel)

Best bet

Everything about Liverpool’s recent form tells you that they should win this game and score a lot of goals in the process, but there is no value in betting that at all unless you’re wagering huge stakes.

Instead, I think it’s smarter to bet something small on something with longer odds. In this case, that’s a correct score prediction of 1-1. I’ve already explained how I think a tired Liverpool could be complacent in this game with the Champions League on the horizon.

If you (like I) believe Everton have been improving, then it’s worth backing them to spoil the party. I’m not brave enough to predict a win for the boys in blue, but I could see them playing much like they did against Man City, except this time they might not get robbed of a penalty opportunity by VAR.

That game should have finished 1-1, and at +1400, I’m going to take a bet on this one following a similar path.

Pick: Correct Score: 1-1 (+1,400 at FanDuel)
