Chelsea will open their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup run on Monday when they face off with LAFC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Chelsea hopes to pick up their second trophy of the year, and securing three points will be crucial ahead of a big match with Flamengo. LAFC needed a late comeback and extra time to qualify for this competition, and are hoping to extend a 10-match unbeaten run.
Find out why we’re backing the Blues to make both halves entertaining for fans in our Chelsea vs. LAFC predictions and FIFA Club World Cup picks for Monday, June 16.
Chelsea vs LAFC picks and predictions
My Chelsea vs LAFC best bet: Chelsea to score in both halves (-120 at bet365)
Chelsea are expected to win easily against LAFC as they open what could be a deep run in the Club World Cup. They’re priced at -350 on the 3-way moneyline, and the Asian handicap market expects them to win by multiple goals.
Along those lines of thought, the Blues are expected to score at least two goals in this match. Against an LAFC side that is vastly outmanned in terms of talent and class, I’ll be surprised if they don’t score at least three, which means we’re likely to see goals on both sides of halftime.
For Chelsea, this isn’t just a tournament. It’s a preseason of sorts, an opportunity for Enzo Maresca to try some different lineups and get playing time for some younger players while also debuting his new signings.
One of those signings is Liam Delap, the former Leicester City striker who will be expected to start. He'll be one of many players hoping to find the back of the net and impress the manager, and while LAFC is a solid team, this is a whole other level of class they’ll be facing.
When Maresca turns to the bench, he’s got a ridiculous amount of attacking talent to call upon. That will lead to the Blues pushing for goals the full 90 minutes against an LAFC team that can struggle with pace and has been exposed by some of the more creative players in MLS.
LAFC have conceded just five goals at home this season in eight matches, but 18 in the same number of matches outside of their home stadium. They will face an atmosphere on Monday in Atlanta that will be heavily tilted in favor of the Blues, and they’ve conceded before halftime in their last five matches on the road.
Chelsea scored four goals in the second half against Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League Final after a rough first half. They’re going to want to get off to a strong start to this competition, especially with a tough match against Flamengo coming up on Friday.
Look for the Blues to get on the board before halftime and tack on insurance after the break.
Chelsea vs LAFC same-game parlay (SGP)
LAFC allow fewer than three shots on target per match in MLS play. A lot of that has to do with the side averaging 53.4% possession, sixth-most in the league, and their pressure causing turnovers in the midfield.
That pressure won’t faze Chelsea, and they will control the possession. The Blues averaged 5.34 shots on target per 90 minutes in Premier League play, and will easily clear that mark against an LAFC defense that isn’t nearly as compact or talented as what they’ve faced in England.
Sergi Palencia has been targeted repeatedly by attacks this season, and the LAFC right back has struggled as a result. He ranks near the bottom of the league in ground duel win percentage and has one of the highest fouls committed per 90 minutes in the league.
Chelsea will look to attack down that flank, and Marc Cucurella could benefit the most from it. He’s often involved in Chelsea’s attack, making runs from deep into a No. 10 position inside the box via inverse runs, and presents solid value in a match where the Blues are expected to bag goals.
