2024 Copa America Odds & Betting Favorites: Argentina's Odds Shortening

We are less than two months away from the start of Copa America 2024 and Argentina is the betting favorite to defend their crown. Can Lionel Messi keep Argentina at the peak of international soccer, or will Brazil have something to say about that come June?

The 48th edition of the 2024 Copa America featuring South America's elite, will run from June 20 to July 14 in the United States. Fourteen venues will host games with the finals being contested at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

With the field now set, sportsbooks are starting to fine-tune the Copa America soccer odds.

Argentina — led by the magnificent Lionel Messi — are the betting favorites to defend their Copa America crown.

The second choice, Brazil, has been dealt a major injury blow with Neymar having been already ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury.

Let's break down all the odds below including team USA.

2024 Copa America betting favorites

Argentina (+175)

On the heels of their World Cup triumph, Argentina finds themselves situated atop the Copa America 2024 odds boards as the betting favorites, and with good reason.

La Albiceleste currently holds top spot in World Cup qualifying having taken 15 out of a possible 18 points. They've done so through excellent defending, conceding just two goals through six matches while notching eight timely goals of their own.

Lionel Messi continues to dawn the white and blue and with him healthy and in the lineup at next year's Copa America tournament, Argentina has every chance of defending their Copa America crown and winning three major pieces of hardware on the trot.

Wouldn't that be something?

Brazil (+200)

As is often the case when it comes to the Brazilian National Team, anything short of winning and winning with flair is considered a failure.

Despite the boatload of talent this team possesses, they've not won any hardware in four years, which for them feels like an eternity.

Their current form is poor, sitting on just seven points (sixth overall) in World Cup 2026 qualifying.

Will they be able to rectify their issues and put together a tournament worth remembering? They certainly have the pieces to do so.

Uruguay (+600)

If you try to compare talent levels between Uruguay and the top two choices, you'd be stopped in your tracks.

Uruguay is the epitome of a team whose sum is greater than its parts.

Sure, having the likes of Darwin Nunez and Nicolas de la Cruz helps the attack flourish, but it's the defense that suffocates you and gives up very little.

Come next summer, if Uruguay has a fully healthy lot of players to choose from, they are going to be a serious contender to win their first Copa America title since 2011.

United States Odds to win Copa America

With the tournament being held on American soil, most will be inclined to back the Red, White, and Blue until the very end. While that is patriotic, the reality is that this American team leaves a lot to be desired.

They've not shown the ability to win big matches, as seen by their most recent exit (shockingly, at that), in the Gold Cup semifinals vs. Panama.

They were unable to break down Panama more than once and were ultimately eliminated via penalties.

How do you think they are going to fare against the likes of Uruguay, and possibly Brazil or Argentina in the knockout stages?

Below are some Copa America odds surrounding the host nation.

  • Outright win: +1,400
  • Group C winner: +130
  • To qualify from Group C: Yes -1,000, No +520

Copa America best bet: Argentina to win (+200 at Betano)

More Messi Magic

While it may seem dull, lame, and make for a potentially boring tournament, Argentina enter this year's Copa America in fine form.

They sit atop the CONMEBOL standings for the 2026 World Cup and have conceded just twice in six games.

With Lionel Messi set to turn 37 at the onset of the tournament, you'd be foolish to count him out.

He's the straw that stirs the drink and with a plethora of high-quality players around him and a stout defensive line, Argentina should face very little resistance until the semifinals, if not Finals.

As for Brazil — their main rival — the loss of Neymar will be too much to overcome and we've seen a dip in their form leading up to this tournament with just one win (a friendly) over their last six fixtures in all competitions.

Give me Messi. Give me Argentina.

How to bet Copa America 2024 outright odds

Betting on the outright winner of Copa America 2024 is an extremely popular futures betting option and odds usually come out soon after the previous Copa America winner is crowned. These odds will adjust based on how countries and players perform leading up to the tournament. Sportsbooks will also adjust the soccer odds based on handle and liability with certain nations.

Futures odds are displayed in list form, showing each option and its odds – most often ranked from best chances to win to worst. You will usually see a plus (+) sign in front of a team's futures odds, like this:

  • Uruguay +550

This means that on a $100 bet, you would stand to win $550 if Uruguay won Copa America 2024. As we get closer to the Copa America Final or if one team has been extremely dominant, you might see a country with a minus sign (-) ahead of its odds.

  • Brazil -110

This would mean that you have to bet $110 to win $100 on a Brazil Copa America outright victory.
