The Minnesota Wild have won five of their last six games and are suffocating teams, not allowing a goal at 5-on-5 in four consecutive contests.

That fact has been vital to their success considering their forward depth is depleted.

My Wild vs. Penguins predictions and NHL picks believe Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov will continue to carry the Minnesota offense on November 21.

Wild vs Penguins prediction

Wild vs Penguins Best bet: Mats Zuccarello Over 0.5 points (-148)

When you watch Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov together, their chemistry crackles.

Kaprizov, always in motion, can weave and dash through virtually any NHL team’s defensive coverage. Zuccarello provides a willing and intuitive partner, helping to springboard Kaprizov to open space or jumping into a shooting lane to receive a pass.

Zuccarello has 60 points in his 75 games over the past two seasons combined. His 0.8 points per game ranks him in the Top 90 players in the NHL over that time. Not bad for a 38-year-old.

Zuccarello’s metrics away from Kaprizov are unimpressive. Ergo, to make Zuccarello produce like a top forward, he needs proximity to Kaprizov’s greatness. This extends to the power play, as the duo will move and occupy any position in their formation to open up the best shooting or passing lane.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the bottom third in the league in expected goals against and high-danger chances against, so this is a matchup where Zuccarello can shine.

Wild vs Penguins same-game parlay

The Minnesota Wild are down two centers, with rookie Danila Yurov stepping into the first-line-center role. But Kaprizov and Zuccarello should still find plenty of opportunities, as Yurov acts as the defensive conscience for the two.

It’s easy to envision Kaprizov creating chances off Penguins forecheckers caught deep, and he has the playmaking to prey on the Penguins’ desire to overload on the puck in the defensive zone. Kaprizov’s chances at scoring seem especially propitious because he is whipping shots at net, registering 23 shots combined over his last five games.

Overall, offense should be hard to come by for Pittsburgh. The Pens' style of staying patient on the perimeter and controlling zone time likely spells few offensive chances for the Wild, especially for their Bottom 6.

Scoring will be dominated by the big names, but this contest will still stay Under 5.5 goals.
