Shayne Gostisbehere has attempted at least five shots in all 10 games this season, and he's cleared 1.5 shots on goal in six straight. The shooting parade should continue against the Vancouver Canucks tonight, who rank last in shot suppression.
Gostisbehere headlines three shooters I'm backing with my NHL predictions and NHL picks for a full slate of games on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Pick #1: Adrian Kempe Over 2.5 shots
I’m backing Adrian Kempe for 3+ shots to 59%.
He's averaged 2.8 shots on 7.3 attempts this season despite facing a murderer’s row of opponents, including the Avalanche, Panthers, Golden Knights, Oilers, and Bruins.
The forward should enjoy an easier time getting rubber on net against the Washington Capitals. While they're a good team, that’s more so because of the offense and goaltending than quality defense.
The Capitals rank 27th in shot suppression at 5-on-5 and 29th on the penalty kill. They’re also one of the more undisciplined clubs leaguewide, sitting 29th in shorthanded time per game.
Kempe is working on two days of rest, and the Los Angeles Kings are still chasing their first win. They’ll be heavily reliant on their top shooter tonight.

Pick #2: Shayne Gostisbehere Over 1.5 shots
Shayne Gostisbehere is a play for 2+ shots up to 62%.
The Vancouver Canucks rank dead last in shot share (39.2%) and shots allowed per game (32.46). They're spending a ton of time defending each night, and Gostisbehere gets the perfect usage to take advantage.
He leads the Carolina Hurricanes' regular blueliners with an 80% offensive-zone start rate at 5-on-5, and Gostisbehere also quarterbacks the club's top power-play unit.
Gostisbehere is consistently being put in prime offensive situations and capitalizing, recording multiple shots on goal in seven of 10 games. That includes a multi-shot performance on six attempts when the Hurricanes faced the Canucks on Oct. 8.
- Matchup: Hurricanes vs. Canucks
- Time: 10 p.m. ET
- Location: Rogers Arena, Vancouver
- TV: SN, ESPN+
Pick #3: Moritz Seider Over 1.5 shots
Play to 62%.
Moritz Seider has gone Over 1.5 shots in six of eight games this season, and he's tallied a season-high in attempts during one of the two exceptions.
That came against the Seattle Kraken, which certainly checks out. The Kraken have allowed the second-most shots on goal per game to opposing defensemen.
I don’t care that Seider only hit the target on one of his seven attempts. The important thing is the volume was there, and we should expect that to be the case again tonight.
On top of bleeding shots to blueliners, the Kraken have played at the third-highest 5-on-5 pace this season. That should help create a high-event environment for Seider to fire away.
- Matchup: Red Wings vs. Kraken
- Time: 9:40 p.m. ET
