NHL teams projected to have the highest team point totals in 2023-24
Carolina Hurricanes (109.5)
It shouldn't be a surprise to anybody to see the Carolina Hurricanes sitting with the highest projected point total heading into the season. Carolina finished with 113 points last year, and even though the team lost a few depth pieces, the arrivals of Dmitry Orlov and Tony DeAngelo will help bolster the deepest defense corps in the NHL.
With Andrei Svechnikov back to deepen this team's attack and Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta splitting time in the crease, this team has a big shot at piling up the points over 82 games.
Colorado Avalanche (106.5)
Losing a player like Gabriel Landeskog for the season would be detrimental to the majority of teams in the league, but when you're the Colorado Avalanche, it's business as usual. Nathan MacKinnon is fresh off a career high in points, Cale Makar is back to full health, and the Avs added a plethora of depth to help improve the team's bottom six.
Colorado started last year with a nasty Cup hangover and still managed 109 points. With the Avs in revenge mode after last season's playoff upset, who knows what this team's ceiling is?
Edmonton Oilers (106.5)
The Edmonton Oilers have the best hockey player in the world and arguably the greatest wingman you could ask for, but is that enough? Edmonton's offense received a huge boost last year from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman, who will both need to be stellar again to give this team secondary scoring.
Mattias Ekholm was a huge pick up defensively for the Oilers' D last season but not much else was done to help beef up the blue line. The team seems to be all-in on Calder candidate Stuart Skinner between the pipes, and it hopes Jack Campbell can rebound. With Edmonton finishing at 109 points last year, it will look to build off that and aim higher — both in the regular season and the playoffs.
