NHL Sharp Money and Line Movement Report

By Patrick Everson

Colorado opened as a -145 Game 5 favorite late Sunday night at William Hill US's Nevada books, dipped to -140 Monday morning and returned to -145 at lunch hour today. As of 5:30 p.m. ET, the Golden Knights are taking 53 percent of moneyline tickets and 68 percent of moneyline dollars. "Once the game starts, I expect a pretty-good-sized decision and that we’ll need Colorado,” William Hill US director of trading Nick Bogdanovich said. "They’re getting +125 with the Knights, I’m assuming that’ll add up pretty fast. Obviously, Game 5 is the most important game in this series, but I don’t know if it’ll translate into the biggest handle this series. Games 3 and 4 were in Vegas and they fell on a Friday and Sunday, so a lot more people were in town then." The total opened at 5.5 (Over -115) and adjusted a few cents to Over -120, with 84 percent of tickets/71 percent of cash on the Over.

Betting trend to know

The Avalanche are 12-2 in their last 14 games following a loss of three or more goals. Find more NHL betting trends for Golden Knights vs. Avalanche.

Moneyline pick

The Avalanche entered the postseason as the Stanley Cup favorites, and after destroying the Knights 7-1 in Game 1 moved as high as +145 on the Cup futures board.

But anybody who counted the Knights out after they fell to 0-2 behind an overtime loss in Game 2 might be eating their words after the Knights won back-to-back contests in Vegas. The Knights even got a bit of revenge for their Game 1 beatdown by pulling off a rout of their own in a 5-1 victory on Sunday.

As good as the Knights are, I have a hard time seeing the Avalanche losing three games in a row. Especially with this contest taking place in Denver, where the Avs went 22-4-2 during the regular season and have gone a perfect 4-0 during the playoffs.

Colorado has been nothing short of incredible at home this year, posting a ridiculous scoring margin of plus-69 in 32 regular season and playoff games.

With every victory in this series going to the home team, expect the Avs to bounce back from an ugly loss with a crucial win in Game 5.

PREDICTION: ML Colorado (-149)

Over/Under pick

Led by Nathan Mackinnon, the Avalanche wrapped up the regular season as the highest-scoring team in the league with 3.52 goals per game, while the Knights ranked third with 3.39 goals per game.

That said, these teams also excelled between the pipes with both Colorado's Philipp Grubauer and Vegas' Marc-Andre Fleury finishing as finalists for this year's Vezina Trophy.

Grubauer went 30-9-1 with a 1.95 GAA and a save percentage of .922 during the regular season. Despite leaking five goals on 35 shots in Game 4, the German still has an impressive 2.25 GAA and .929 save percentage in eight postseason contests.

Fleury went 26-10 with a 1.98 GAA and a .928 save percentage during the regular season and has a 1.79 GAA in 10 playoff games.

The Under has gone 8-4 in 12 meetings between these elite squads this season. And it's worth mentioning that in two of the games where the Over cashed (including that 7-1 Colorado victory in Game 1) either Fleury or Grubauer sat out. Back the Under tonight.

PREDICTION: Under 5.5 (-120)
