Adam Fox is one of the most productive defenders in the sport, and he's off to a strong start with five assists through six games.
My Canucks vs. Rangers predictions see Fox building on this strong run of production with another helper tonight against a vulnerable defensive team.
Let's dive deeper into my NHL picks for Sunday, Oct. 11.
Canucks vs Rangers prediction: Under 6.5
I like the Under to 58%, mostly as a fade of the Vancouver Canucks offense.
They’re tied for fifth in goals per game and second in shooting percentage, which I’m not buying for a second.
They’re icing an extremely similar roster to the one that finished 29th in shooting percentage last season, while scoring more goals than only the Flames.
Vancouver sits 28th in expected goal generation this season, a clear signal the goals will run dry when they’re not shooting at an unsustainably high clip.
The New York Rangers are very dangerous on the power play, but I don’t see enough 5-on-5 offense — or scoring depth — to truly run it up.

Canucks vs Rangers combo
I like pairing the Under with Pavel Dorofeyev to record a point and Adam Fox to notch an assist.
Dorofeyev is an efficient finisher, and he’s putting his shot to use at a high clip. He is leading the Rangers in shot attempts, shots on net, scoring chances, and expected goals through six games.
Vancouver ranks Bottom-3 in shot suppression at 5-on-5 and on the kill, opening the door for production.
The Canucks have the league’s worst penalty kill, and Fox is an elite distributor on the man advantage. I expect New York’s power play to drive the bus for their offense.
Canucks vs Rangers combo
- Under 6.5
- Pavel Dorofeyev Over 0.5 points
- Adam Fox Over 0.5 assists
Top pick
Canucks vs Rangers player prop: Adam Fox Over 0.5 assists
I like Fox for an assist to 62%.
Fox ranks seventh among defensemen in assists since the beginning of 2024-25 and has five helpers through six games this season.
He is the straw that stirs the drink for the Rangers, who will need him to continue facilitating offense with star goaltender Igor Shesterkin out for the season.
Opportunities should be plentiful against the Canucks, who rank 31st in expected goals allowed and are conceding 4.83 goals per game.
They’ve been especially bad on the penalty kill, and Fox quarterbacks New York’s power play about as well as anybody.
Canucks vs Rangers goal scorer: Pavel Dorofeyev
Dorofeyev has outperformed his expected goal total every year in his career, backed by a 14.5% shooting rate.
This season, he has converted 2.65 expected goals and 23 scoring chances into just one goal, resulting in a 5.3% finishing rate.
The important thing is the opportunities are there nightly, and that should remain the case against the Canucks. Only the Flyers have allowed more expected goals this season.
