Titans vs Eagles Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Philly Secondary Haunts Tannehill

Derrick Henry may get going for the Titans in Philly, but the Eagles' secondary will make them one-dimensional. Our NFL picks highlight a rough matchup for Ryan Tannehill as Tennessee visits the Eagles.

Two likely playoff teams will meet on Sunday afternoon when the Tennessee Titans travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Titans are most likely going to win the AFC South, but they have only beaten one team that is currently in the playoffs, despite their 7-4 record. The Eagles may be 10-1, but they have struggled in each of their past three games against lesser opponents. Will Tennessee prove it belongs with the elite NFL teams on the road this week?

Titans vs Eagles best odds

Titans vs Eagles picks and predictions

The Titans have won seven of their past nine games, but strength of schedule is a massive reason behind this big winning streak. Only the Commanders are a current playoff team among these seven wins. They lost to the Giants, Bills, Chiefs, and Bengals — all current playoff teams.

Now they will have to travel to face arguably the best team in the NFL in the Eagles. While the Eagles have struggled to put away teams recently, they have certainly not struggled to shut down their opponents’ passing games. They rank second in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game at 183.6 yards per contest.

In fact, only four teams all season have recorded over 200 passing yards against the Eagles and no one has surpassed 240. One major reason behind this is their ability to put pressure on the quarterback. The Eagles average 3.3 sacks per game, which is tied for second in the league behind only the Cowboys.

This pressure also leads to a ton of mistakes. Philly leads the league in interceptions, with 15, and ranks fifth in the league in fumbles recovered with seven. Ryan Tannehill is going to have his hands full, having been sacked 19 times this season.

The Titans have one of the worst passing offenses in the NFL at 175.9 yards per game, ranking 29th in the league. Tannehill has been held to under 200 passing yards four times already this season in his nine games played. This could very well be the fifth time on Sunday against this Eagles defense.

The one weakness the Eagles may have this season is their rushing defense. The Titans will likely try to exploit that weakness with Derrick Henry and just try to mix in some play-action passes. I do not expect very many opportunities for Tannehill to get the ball downfield and the Eagles will get another passer to stay Under 200 yards.

My best bet: Ryan Tannehill Under 205.5 passing yards (-130)

Titans vs Eagles spread analysis

The Eagles have the best record in the NFL, but find themselves around the middle of the league in covering the spread. They are 6-5 against the spread, despite their 10-1 straight-up record. Meanwhile, the Titans are tied with the best ATS record in the league at 8-3.

However, things change at home for Philly as it’s 5-1 ATS at the Linc this season. The Eagles’ only loss ATS also was their only loss straight up —to the Commanders on Monday Night Football.

The Titans are 5-1 ATS on the road this year, with five consecutive covers and four straight-up wins. So, something has got to give here.

Even if the Titans can get Henry rolling, the Titans are going to need a passing game to keep up with the Eagles. Philly is averaging 29.2 points per game at home and the Titans have yet to score 29 points in a game this season.

If this spread was closer to a touchdown than a field goal, I would be a little more hesitant here to take the Eagles. However, at only 4.5 points, the Eagles are likely to be able to outscore the Titans by enough to still cover this spread.

Titans vs Eagles Over/Under analysis

The Over is 7-4 in Philly games and its average point total is 47.2 points per game. Meanwhile, the Under is 8-3 in Tennessee games and its average point total is only 37.6 points per contest.

A big part of the Titans’ success in keeping games low scoring is their ability to prevent opponents from reaching the end zone, despite allowing plenty of yards. They have the seventh-best opponent red-zone touchdown percentage at only 51.61%. However, the Eagles are the best red-zone offense in the NFL at a 72.50% touchdown percentage.

The Eagles are going to give up some rushing yards to keep the Titans in the game. However, they are also going to find plenty of scoring chances themselves on offense at home. The Over is 10-1 in the last 11 home games for Philadelphia and this should be another one.
