This Sunday we have the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers meeting at Acrisure Stadium.
Both teams experienced very different starts to their seasons, with Pittsburgh winning a shootout and Seattle losing a tight, low-scoring game.
My early Seahawks vs. Steelers predictions and NFL picks are expecting the Steelers to continue their excellent start to the season. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. ET on September 14.
Seahawks vs Steelers predictions
Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.
Early Seahawks vs Steelers spread pick: Steelers -2.5
The Seattle Seahawks had hoped to start the season strongly against their divisional rivals, but saw the 49ers come back in the fourth quarter and take the win.
The biggest disappointment is that they managed to hold the 49ers to two touchdowns, and picked off Brock Purdy twice, but still failed to get the win. The defense was reasonably good but the offense struggled, something they can’t afford to have happen again against a Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense that is, on paper at least, really solid.
It looked like Aaron Rodgers was done as an elite quarterback in the NFL, but last Sunday saw arguably his best performance since his penultimate season in Green Bay. He completed 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards against the Jets’ secondary while managing to throw four touchdowns.
He really rolled back the years, and although it’s still too early to draw definitive conclusions, he certainly looks like a significant upgrade on what the Steelers had last year.
Mike Tomlin’s ability to maximize the talent he has as his disposal year after year is a real gift, and this Steelers team is going to be a problem for anyone they face. On home soil, they should have enough to cover.
Early Seahawks vs Steelers total pick: Under 40.5
The Steelers gave up 32 points against the Jets but their opposition was exceptional on the ground. The running game was excellent with Breece Hall looking the best he has since his rookie season.
There’s no reason to think that the Seahawks will be able to cause the same issues that the Jets posed for the Steelers’ offense. Sam Darnold had a poor debut and only managed 150 passing yards, with the team managing just 84 on the ground. A total of 230 scrimmage yards is a concern when the Steelers pass rush was strong, and Jalen Ramsey appeared to add some nastiness to their secondary too.
The total sits at 40.5, and I think it is likely to drop throughout the week. We simply didn’t see enough from Darnold to believe the Seahawks can do enough for the Over to cover here.
We’ve only seen one excellent performance from Rodgers, so it’s too early to declare him truly back. Perhaps without being fired up with a hatred of the Jets, he won’t be as determined in Week 2. Take the Under here.
