Gabby Williams steps up, but the total is a tad high, and we're focused on the Under in our Sun vs. Valkyries predictions.

After a two-game road trip holding their own against a pair of WNBA heavies, the Golden State Valkyries open a four-game homestand tonight against the last-place Connecticut Sun.

The Sun (1-6) finally broke into the column with a victory against Seattle last week, stopping a season-opening 5-game slide.

Even though Golden State hammered Connecticut in two meetings at home last year, my Sun vs. Valkyries predictions and WNBA picks stick to the total, expecting a lower-scoring affair on May 25.

Sun vs Valkyries prediction

Sun vs Valkyries best bet: Under 160.5 (-105)

The WNBA’s leader in scoring defense at 77.6 points just allowed a season-high 90 points in a loss to Indiana, but the Golden State Valkyries are a great bounce-back team.

Last year, they allowed 90+ points six times but held the opponent to an average of 72.8 points the next game.

The Connecticut Sun are the WNBA’s lowest-scoring team (77.3 points), and they’re hurting up front.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa (ankle) has yet to suit up this season, though Brittney Griner (ribs) is probable.

They failed to break 64 points at Chase Center last year, and the Valkyries defense keeps this low scoring.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Connecticut ranks fourth with 16.6 points off turnovers per game, but that’s a valve Golden State shuts down, as it leads the league in fewest points off turnovers allowed at 8.0. Only one other team is under 14 points in that category.

Sun vs Valkyries same-game parlay

Gabby Williams is coming off a season-low six points in the loss to Indiana, but she’s been solid at home this year, averaging 18.5. Last year with Seattle, Williams scored at least 16 points in all four matchups vs. the Sun.

Veronica Burton’s assist line is just a touch high at 6.5. It’s a number she’s topped twice this year, and Burton went Under this line in two of three games against Connecticut last year.

Sun vs Valkyries SGP

  • Under 160.5
  • Gabby Williams Over 13.5 points
  • Veronica Burton Under 6.5 assists

Sun vs Valkyries first basket scorer: Gabby Williams (+700)

Golden State has scored the opening bucket just once this season, but the one time they did pull it off was at home, and it was Williams who hit a jumper. I’m going back to that well to cash this bet tonight.
