The Week 13 slate opens with an NFC North showdown between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Thursday, November 27.

My early Packers vs. Lions predictions and NFL picks are calling for Detroit to take care of business in the annual Thanksgiving Day stop in Motor City.

Early Packers vs. Lions spread pick: Lions -3

-105 at bet365

The short week and quick turnaround for a Thanksgiving divisional tilt benefits the Detroit Lions at Ford Field more than the visiting Green Bay Packers

Detroit has averaged 34.7 points per home game while going 11-3 at Ford Field since the beginning of last season, and there’s a notable disparity in the strength of schedules the Lions and Packers have faced through 12 weeks.

Green Bay had played the 10th-softest schedule per PFF, and sixth-easiest by DVOA leading into Week 12, with Detroit facing the sixth and 20th-hardest, respectively.

While I’m anticipating a close contest to open Week 13, the Lions are better on both sides of the ball by DVOA, and Green Bay has only covered the spread in two of its past nine games, in addition to just one of the past seven on the highway.

Early Packers vs. Lions total pick: Over 49

-110 at bet365

With the highlighted strength of the Detroit offense at Ford Field pairing with a well-rounded Green Bay attack, this game is set to see ample scoring to go Over the number.

The Packers have averaged 32.3 points across their past four road games and ranked eighth in offensive DVOA ahead of Week 12. Quarterback Jordan Love has also impressed while pacing the league in adjusted EPA per play and ranking fourth in PFF passing grade.

Of course, Detroit QB Jared Goff has thrown for the second-most touchdown passes, and the Over has hit in nine of Detroit’s past 13 home games.

Similarly, the Packers have played to the Over in four of their past five on the road.
