Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.
Early Giants vs Saints spread pick: Saints +1.5
The New Orleans Saints held their own against the Buffalo Bills on the road in Week 4. Down 21-16 in the fourth quarter, Spencer Rattler just missed Brandin Cooks on a wide-open touchdown that would have given New Orleans the lead. Instead, the Saints settled for a field goal, and Buffalo rattled off 10 unanswered points.
Even the worst team in the NFL (which New Orleans may be) will come to play with pride each week. After suffering a heartbreaking road loss, the Saints should be fired up heading into a winnable Week 5 matchup, and I like them to come out and win outright.
Aside from a 44-13 bludgeoning at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Week 3, New Orleans has been within one possession of its opponent in all other games. The Saints don’t have a deep well of talent as other teams do, but they’ve been far more competitive than their winless record suggests.
Early Giants vs Saints total pick: Under 41.5
Jaxson Dart extended Brian Daboll’s New York Giants tenure by at least one more week, but that feel-good story overshadows the gutwrenching loss of Malik Nabers, who tore his ACL in the win. Without Nabers, New York’s offense will struggle on the road.
The Saints have allowed the fourth-most points per game to opponents at 30.3. On the road, they’ve given up 37.5 points per game compared to just 23 per game at home. New York’s defense has surrendered the eighth-most points at 25.3 per game.
Despite poor defenses, I’m taking the Under due to even worse offenses. New York has averaged just 18.3 points per game, and New Orleans has averaged 16.5, good for fifth-fewest and fourth-fewest, respectively.
The Saints will be hungry for a win, and I expect the defense to show up in front of the home crowd. New York’s offense isn’t loaded with talent at receiver, so the loss of Nabers will hamstring an already-lacking attack.
