The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets have both had some games to forget this preseason, and now they’ll both have the opportunity to end on a high note when they wrap up their three-game schedule in the Meadowlands.

With injuries mounting for the visitors, my Eagles vs. Jets predictions will explain why New York should be able to find enough on defense to come away with a victory.

Eagles vs Jets prediction

Eagles vs Jets Best bet: Jets moneyline (-132)

Preseason finales are notoriously brutal to bet because teams almost always rest their starters while giving opportunities to those fighting it out for roster spots. Making matters worse, the Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a terrible showing against the Cleveland Browns, while the New York Jets’ offense sputtered against the New York Giants.

Philadelphia could be in a bit of trouble here, particularly with Andrew Mukuba, a standout this preseason, going down with an injury. He’s been making a ton of contributions at safety, and he had an interception return to give the Eagles some life last week.

With Kelee Ringo, another one of these corners jockeying for playing time, also injured, a Jets offense that has been good this preseason may have a way in here.

New York didn’t score all that much last weekend, but Adrian Martinez looked like a starting-caliber quarterback with his quick reads throughout the game. This talented running back group also managed 4.3 yards per carry on the ground, and it was just a product of a few big plays, which ultimately cost them a chance to hang around.

The Jets’ defense managed to come up with two interceptions, however, and now the Eagles look like they’ll be down a quarterback with Tanner McKee not practicing, in addition to some injuries on the line. Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw an interception on just eight passes, and while Kyle McCord did look good in his stead, he went just 8-for-16 for 47 yards.

Philly’s offense looks lifeless at the moment, and even Jalen Hurts hasn’t had a great camp. The defense has the ability to win this game, given there are several spots open at cornerback — something that should raise the level and keep good players on the field — but it doesn’t seem like New York’s offense is in a rough enough spot to bail the Eagles out.

The Jets, with their solid depth under center and in the backfield, should punish an Eagles defense that has continued to disappoint this preseason, while their defense looks to pick the bones of a skeleton crew offensively.
