The Philadelphia Eagles cross the country for a non-conference Monday Night Football matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14.

All eyes are on the left hand of L.A. quarterback Justin Herbert, who suffered a fracture to his non-throwing hand in Week 13. Despite the injury, the Bolts expect to have their star gunslinger in action.

I break down my early Eagles vs. Chargers predictions and NFL picks for Monday, December 8.

Early MNF spread pick: Philadelphia Eagles -3

-105 at bet365

The Philadelphia Eagles bring a two-game losing skid with them to La-La Land in Week 14. Philadelphia’s defense has been a no-show in losses to Dallas and Chicago, but it can take advantage of the Los Angeles Chargers porous pass protection.

The Chargers' offensive line has been burdened by injuries all season, but even with that group getting healthy, they’ve still let Justin Herbert feel the heat far too much. He’s felt the highest rate of pressure among qualified QBs and will have to modify his snap routine and formation with that busted hand.

The Chargers have won five of their last seven games overall, but those victories have come against some bottom-tier teams and sub-par QBs, like Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Minnesota.

Given the trajectory of the vig, we might see this spread slip below a field goal. From there, Eagles bettors will want to get down quick, as I suspect that buyback will bring it back to Philly -3.

Early MNF total pick: Under 40.5

-105 at bet365

This total opened at 42.5 and powered through the key O/U of 41 points with Herbert’s hand issues fueling that move.

The Eagles’ ineptitude on offense is also convincing early money to take the Under. Philadelphia has looked lost since the second half of Week 12’s matchup with Dallas, and I don’t think a run-in with one of the top defenses in the league will help fix it.

Los Angeles is very stingy, especially through the air, and the Eagles may have to ground-and-pound their way down the field. The Bolts’ zone-heavy schemes don’t let much behind them, and they’ve allowed the fewest explosive passing plays in the league.

As mentioned, life could be just as tough for Herbert and the Chargers' offense. Vic Fangio has had extra time to scheme for L.A. after playing last Friday and needs to create a lot of pressure up front to make up for a shaky secondary.
