Early Browns vs Raiders spread pick: Raiders -3

-110 at FanDuel

The Cleveland Browns haven’t won on the road all season, and they might be forced to start rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders on Sunday.

That’s a problem because there’s no sugarcoating Sanders’ performance in his NFL debut in relief of the injured Dillon Gabriel (concussion) in Week 11. Sanders completed just four of 16 passes for 47 yards, and he threw an interception.

A week of practice might help, and the Las Vegas Raiders are also a basement-dwelling club, but the lights will probably remain too bright for Sanders on the brightest stage.

If the Browns can’t succeed as a two-dimensional offense with Sanders behind center, it’ll be a long afternoon for the Cleveland defense in Sin City.

Again, there isn’t a lot to be excited about for Vegas, but the Raiders should be able to dominate the time of possession and capitalize on enough short fields and/or turnovers to cover the number at home.

Early Browns vs Raiders total pick: Under 36.5

-110 at FanDuel

The Cleveland and Las Vegas defenses have been statistically better than their respective offenses, and as highlighted, the Browns have a major question mark at quarterback.

Raiders quarterback Geno Smith hasn’t exactly been balling out, either. He’s thrown for just 6.0 yards per attempt with the second-lowest adjusted EPA per play during Vegas’ active four-game losing streak, after all.

With the Browns allowing the fifth-fewest yards per play and ranking fifth in defensive DVOA, I’m not expecting the Raiders to run up the score.

Instead, look for Cleveland to lean on a run-heavy game script and show up on defense. So, while this total is a low bar to clear, the Brownies will play the leading role in keeping the final score Under the number.
