Expert Week 4 CFB moneyline picks

Texas Tech vs Utah: Utah (-152)

In what is being hailed as the Big 12 Championship in Week 4, the No. 16 Utah Utes hold the advantage at home in Salt Lake City. Both teams have phenomenal numbers, but No. 17 Texas Tech is 6-11 on the road in conference play in the Joey McGuire era.

Michigan vs Nebraska: Nebraska (+114)

No. 21 Michigan hasn’t proven to be elite on either side of the ball, ranking 100th in success rate on offense and 62nd on defense. Nebraska checks in at 13th in success rate on offense and 14th in EPA per play on defense en route to a 3-0 record and +3.9 yards per play differential.

Auburn vs Oklahoma: Oklahoma (-250)

It’s too early to crown anybody, but No. 11 Oklahoma looks like the real deal. The defensive front seven might be the most disruptive unit in the country, and quarterback John Mateer is a bona fide Heisman Trophy odds contender (+950).

Florida vs Miami: Miami (-280)

No. 4 Miami has been one of the most impressive teams in the nation — and certainly in the ACC — while Florida is dangerously close to “dead man walking territory” with Billy Napier after a 1-2 start. Florida still has the talent to pull off the upset, but Miami is the team firing on all cylinders early in the season.

Illinois vs Indiana: Indiana (-205)

Curt Cignetti just wins, and his No. 19 Indiana squad ranks in the Top 10 in success rate on both sides of the ball. No. 9 Illinois is a quality football team with veterans up and down the starting lineup, but the Illini don’t have the elite talent level that has been needed to take down a Cignetti-coached team in the recent past.

Tulane vs Mississippi: Mississippi (-450)

Tulane received some votes in the AP Poll, so this was nearly a Top-25 matchup. The Green Wave are 3-0 with two wins over power conference teams (Northwestern, Duke), but No. 13 Mississippi presents a different type of challenge and has already overcome adversity with two SEC wins under its belt.

Arizona State vs Baylor: Arizona State (+105)

Baylor hasn’t proven capable of playing any defense this season, allowing 41.5 points per game against two power conference teams and ranking 105th in success rate allowed. Until that improves, I won’t feel comfortable with the Bears as a favorite, especially not against a veteran Arizona State that won the Big 12 and made the playoffs a year ago.

BYU vs East Carolina: East Carolina (+198)

This one checks a few boxes as a potential upset alert. BYU has a true freshman quarterback playing on the road against a quality East Carolina team hunting for a signature win. The Pirates stormed back in the second half of the opener against NC State but succumbed 17-24, and have since rattled off two blowout wins (combined score 94-3).
