Another week, another banger in the SEC.

After suffering their first loss of the season, the eighth-ranked Mississippi Rebels are on the road, taking on the Oklahoma Sooners in a battle of 6-1 teams.

The books are backing the home team as the early 4.5-point favorites, and my early Mississippi vs Oklahoma predictions and college football picks have this one turning into a hard-hitting rock fight on Saturday, October 25.

Mississippi vs Oklahoma predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Mississippi vs Oklahoma spread pick: Oklahoma -4.5

There might not be a team with a tougher slate coming home than the Oklahoma Sooners, as the Mississippi Rebels will mark the first of five straight Top-20 opponents to close out the campaign.

Thankfully, Oklahoma's defense can stand up to the challenge.

The Sooners rank first in the SEC in scoring defense, allowing just nine points per game over seven contests.

OU allows just 80.4 rush yards per game and two total touchdowns, while surrendering just 132.6 yards through the air and a paltry three TD passes.

This is where the game will likely be won and lost, as the Rebels boast one of the top passing offenses in the nation, throwing for 304.1 yards per contest (second in the SEC).

Even in their lone loss of the year, last week against Georgia, they put up 35 points.

Oklahoma likely doesn’t want to get into a shootout, as its offense isn’t built to go on scoring sprees. It's Top 40 in passing at 249.7 yards per game, but just 110th in rushing.

Mississippi does struggle defending the run, though, allowing a healthy 4.7 yards a pop and 166.7 yards per game.

The one time the Rebels needed their offense to come up big, they put up just two field goals and had the unranked Texas Longhorns beat them 23-6.

The Sooners start quickly, opening the scoring in all seven of their games this season, five with touchdowns. If they can get ahead, they should impose their defensive will to cover.

Early Mississippi vs Oklahoma total pick: Under 52.5

Texas is the only opponent that’s cracked the 20-point plateau against OU, so I want to stay on trend and take the Under.

The Sooners haven’t combined with their opponent to hit 50 points in any game, and that includes holding Michigan to 13 points and Auburn to 17.

Mississippi is by far the most potent offense the Sooners will have faced this year, but there is at least film on how to potentially contain them.

No. 4 LSU held the Rebels to their lowest scoring output of the season in a 24-19 loss, then lowly Washington State held them to the same number the following week, before the Georgia loss.

Mississippi has gone Under the total in three of the last four, while OU has a perfect 6-0-0 Under record.
