The Mississippi Rebels are starting to think about some big things. When they held off LSU a few weeks ago, the Rebels put themselves in prime Playoff position.

Mucking around and nearly losing to Washington State last week may have reflected some cockiness given the rest of Mississippi’s schedule, but escaping with that win leaves the Rebels in ripe Playoff position.

This is more of a must-win for the Georgia Bulldogs, already carrying one loss and somewhat lacking any signature win. Falling to 5-2 with Texas remaining in mid-November would have the Bulldogs teetering in Playoff terms.

My Mississippi vs. Georgia predictions expect the Bulldogs to further test fate, as their slow starts have become a worrying habit.

Mississippi vs Georgia prediction

Mississippi vs Georgia best bet: Mississippi to score 10 points first (+140 at FanDuel)

There is almost no chance Kirby Smart is okay with opponents scoring early and often against the Georgia Bulldogs, even if he is learning an abundance about the opposing offenses before halftime.

The Bulldogs did not want to trail Auburn 10-3 at halftime, give up a second-quarter touchdown to Kentucky, fall behind 24-14 at the break to Alabama or allow three Tennessee touchdowns in the first quarter.

But this is an undeniable reality. These are things that are happening. This is less a pattern now and more a habit. Not even the full-game loss to the Tide could knock Georgia loose, those mistakes against Kentucky and Auburn following that upset loss at home.

Whatever the cause — game plan deficiencies, overconfidence causing a lack of focus, or perhaps this all is some diabolical approach by Smart revealing he is an adrenaline junkie deep in his heart — the fact remains that the Bulldogs have given up 62 first-half points in their last four games (and just 24 in the second halves, including a garbage-time touchdown to Kentucky).

Lane Kiffin must be salivating. Trust the savvy playcaller to have a strong opening script ready.

You could bet the Mississippi Rebels to clear its first-half Team Total of 11.5, but the thought of race to 10 points comes at +140 compared to -114 and is, in many ways, directly related.

That plus-money payout is too enticing given this wretched Georgia trend and Kiffin’s obvious wants.

Mississippi vs Georgia same-game parlay

Georgia has trailed at halftime in two of its last three games, the Bulldogs' opponents regularly getting out to faster starts and leaving Georgia to adjust at halftime.

But then those halftime adjustments have been spectacular, the Bulldogs holding both Alabama and Auburn scoreless in the second half, while Kentucky notched only a garbage-time touchdown.

If not for that meaningless score, all three of Georgia's last three games would have gone Under their totals despite two of them easily topping the first-half totals.

Our deep-ball SGP: The Reality of Stockton

Georgia's ceiling this season has been lowered by the increasingly clear reality that Gunner Stockton is simply not a top-tier quarterback, something obvious to many since Notre Dame's win in the Sugar Bowl in January.

Stockton fell short of 200 yards in two of his last three games, and this could make three out of four.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
