BYU vs Colorado best bet: Colorado +6.5 (+100)
While the BYU Cougars have been impressive en route to a 3-0 record, consider the competition. Portland State is a walkover FCS program, Stanford is one of the worst Power Conference teams in the sport, and East Carolina hasn’t proven capable of stepping up in competition.
The Cougars very well may be a quality football team, but that doesn’t mean we can expect them to go on the road in a conference opener and win with ease. Bear Bachmeier may be averaging 8.2 yards per attempt, but he’s still a true freshman quarterback on the road against a quality defensive coordinator in Robert Livingston.
The Colorado Buffaloes went back to Kaidon Salter at quarterback in Week 4, and it paid immediate dividends as the offense put up 497 total yards against Wyoming. Salter accounted for 390 of those yards and provides a threat both in the air and on the ground, and his stock has risen given the struggles of his former school, Liberty, in his absence.
Colorado has entered “overlooked” territory, going 9-4 ATS in its last 13 games. Folks expect a blowout given the way the bowl game played out, but I wouldn’t be so sure.

Salter needs to be a threat with his legs for this Colorado offense to move, and the game plan should involve a steady dose of quarterback runs. He’s found the end zone in all three appearances this season and has 24 rushing scores in his career.
The Buffs have struggled mightily in the secondary (126th in PFF’s coverage grade, 103rd in EPA per pass), so Chase Roberts should have a productive outing as BYU’s top aerial target.
