Army vs Navy Picks and Predictions for December 12

Staring down a college football total of 37.5 might seem fishy, but the Under is 35-9-1 in head-to-head military service academy games since 2005.

Fans of the Army-Navy rivalry are in for a treat – though that excitement might not transfer to the football field.

West Point will be the first campus since 1943 to host an Army-Navy showdown as the Black Knights look to cap a terrific season with a victory over the Midshipmen. Army comes in with an impressive 7-2 SU record, and is comfortably favored for college football betting. Navy does, however, own a 61-52-7 record in the all-time series.

Let’s have a look at our best college football free picks and predictions for Navy at Army, with kickoff scheduled for Saturday, December 12 at 3 p.m. ET.

Army Black Knights at Navy Midshipmen Betting Preview

Weather

Conditions could be interesting at Michie Stadium, with players looking at a 50 percent chance of showers with temperatures in the low-50s. Given that both teams lean heavily on the run, this one could come down to which team has the better footwear.  Be sure to monitor the gametime conditions with our NCAA football weather info.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

It doesn't matter which of the Black Knights' rushing threats have carried the ball this season: they've all looked dominant, helping Army post the third-highest rushing yards per game average in the nation. And the Black Knights took their run-first philosophy one step further last time out, running the ball on 73 of their 74 offensive plays in a 28-27 win over Georgia Southern.

Navy has dominated the head-to-head series of late, with wins in 15 of the previous 18 meetings, but haven't looked good on offense for most of the 2020 season. The Midshipmen come in having scored just 13 points in their past two games and aren't exactly inspiring confidence – especially considering how little time they'll spend with the football if Army runs its game.

The Black Knights have gone a perfect 6-0 SU at home this season, and they'll be especially motivated Saturday against a Navy team that has had the last laugh far too many times in recent years. Look for the Black Knights to control the ball, control the clock and ultimately control the outcome.

PREDICTION: Army -7 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

You won't find many college games with a total in the high-30s – but then, this is no ordinary matchup. These teams have finished below 40 points in each of their previous six head-to-head encounters, while the losing side has scored more than 20 points just once since 2005. Throw in some miserable weather and two decent defensive units, and this feels like it'll be a real slog.

PREDICTION: Under 37.5 (-110)

Team Total Prop Pick

Our faith in the Midshipmen is shaken, as you're now well aware. And that leads us to one more Under play, this one on Navy's team total. In addition to the Midshipmen's recent struggles, Army has held four opponents to single-digit scoring so far this season. Six of the past eight losers in this head-to-head series have scored 13 or fewer points – and it'll happen again Saturday.

PREDICTION: Navy Under 13.5 (+100)
