NCAAB Sharp Money and Line Movement Report

By Patrick Everson

Villanova opened as a 3-point road favorite at FanDuel and dipped to -2.5 this morning, where the line remains as of 2:30 p.m. ET. However, ticket count is just shy of 4/1 and money 2/1 on the visiting Wildcats. The total moved from 144.5 to 144 for a few hours this morning, then returned to the opener, with early tickets and money both more than 9/1 on the Over.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

Villanova has studs all throughout the lineup, with Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Collin Gillespie being the two best players on the team. On the year, Robinson-Earl is averaging 16.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while Gillespie turns in 14.5 points and 5.2 assists per night. Both players pose real threats to Creighton’s defense in this one, but the problem for the Wildcats is on the other end of the floor.

On the year, Villanova is just 60th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency (all efficiency stats according to KenPom.com). The Wildcats are normally very well coached, but this group has a lot of lapses, and that’s going to be tough for them to overcome against a potent Bluejays offense. Marcus Zegarowski is one of the best point guards in the country, and his eyes should light up with a matchup with Gillespie in this one. Meanwhile, Denzel Mahoney is a very good off-ball scorer, and Mitch Ballock is a 39.1 percent three-point shooter. All three of those guys should be able to make an impact in this one.

It’s also worth noting that this is the biggest game of the year for Creighton. The Bluejays have had something of an up-and-down season, but it’d be very surprising if they don’t get up for this one. Even without a packed house, they should be able to feed off the energy of a game like this.

PREDICTION: Creighton +3.0 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

As previously mentioned, Villanova’s offense is as explosive as ever, but the Wildcats just aren’t very good defensively. And being that they’re going against a Bluejays team that is excellent offensively, with multiple shot creators, this just seems like a game that should be very high-scoring.

In fact, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if this ends with both teams scoring in the high-70s or low-80s. Also, another trend that’s worth noting here is the fact that the Over is 6-3 in Villanova’s nine meetings with Big East opponents this season.

PREDICTION: Over 144.5 (-110)
