Tennessee vs Florida Picks and Predictions for January 19

The Tennessee Volunteers are second in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency, which should mean a long night for Florida on Tuesday, which hasn't shot better than 45 percent from the floor in weeks.

No. 6 Tennessee brings a three-game winning streak into a key college basketball betting matchup with Florida. The Vols are currently in third in the SEC, but a win would put them in a tie for second. With that said, the Gators would love to knock them down a peg.

NCAA odds have the Gators as home underdogs, a position which they are 1-5 under Mike White, so they’ll be looking to change that Tuesday night.

NCAAB Sharp Money and Line Movement Report

Ninety minutes prior to this 7 p.m. ET tipoff, DraftKings moved Tennessee from -7 to -7.5, after opening the Vols -6.5 Monday night. One hour out, Tennessee is landing 82 percent of point-spread bets and 89 percent of spread money. The total opened at 137.5 and dipped to 136 this morning, where the number remains now, although 73 percent of bets/66 percent of dollars are on the Over.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

The Gators haven’t shot better than 45 percent from the floor as a team since January 2, and they now face a Volunteers team that is second in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency, per KenPom.com. Tennessee has guys throughout the lineup that pride themselves on that end of the floor, and that’s just not good news for a Florida team that can get stagnant on offense.

Tre Mann has had a wonderful season thus far for the Gators, averaging 14 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. The only problem is that the Volunteers have the personnel to take him out of his game Tuesday night. The same goes for Colin Castleton, who is in for a nightmarish evening against Yves Pons, who just might be the strongest player in all of college basketball—and he has one heck of a motor, so he’ll be taking it to Castleton all game. Castleton has a huge height advantage in that matchup but it likely won’t matter one bit. It also doesn’t help that Castleton is dealing with an injured ankle. In fact, he’s not even a guarantee to play.

Tennessee forward John Fulkerson could be an X-factor in this game, too. He logged 22 points when these teams met in Knoxville last year, going 10 for 15 from the floor in that game as the Gators really didn’t have an answer for him. This Florida team is not as strong inside as it was a year ago, so Fulkerson has an opportunity to feast yet again.

For what it’s worth, the Volunteers have also won and covered in each of their last four meetings with the Gators...and Florida is missing one of its best two-way players in Scottie Lewis.

PREDICTION: Tennessee -6 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

While Florida’s offense might have trouble scoring efficiently against Tennessee, the team should still hold up its end of the bargain for the total. The Over has hit in five of the last seven games for the Gators and it wouldn’t be that surprising if this one went in that direction.

Even If Tennessee ends up running away with this game, there’s still a chance Florida puts up a decent number of points. The Vols have won each of their last three games by at least five points—and two of those games went Over the total. The 79-74 win against Arkansas on January 6 could be a telling one, as the Gators and Razorbacks aren’t all that different when looking at efficiency stats.

PREDICTION: Over 137.5 (-110)
