With a short spread and tight total, UConn vs. Illinois in the Final Four will come down to the wire. Jason Logan likes how the Huskies' halfcourt offense wears down foes and takes the points with Connecticut.

The UConn Huskies are invincible. At least they think they are after an “enchanted” Elite Eight victory over Duke.

I’ve been on the right side of those buzzer beaters and improbable comebacks, and while you escaped by the skin of your teeth, there’s a sense that nothing can stop you (especially at this time of the year).

Oddsmakers aren’t as sure when it comes to Connecticut’s semifinal showdown with the Illinois Fighting Illini. They’ve set the Huskies as short underdogs in what will be a very orange Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Our Illinois vs. UConn predictions buy into this being an extremely tight game, but my March Madness picks won’t discount Connecticut getting the points in the Final Four.

Illinois vs UConn prediction

Illinois vs UConn best bet: UConn +2 (-110)

You may be asking, “Why take the points when you like UConn to win”? To which I say, have you seen these Connecticut finishes?

With projection models split and some sitting right on the fence, two points go a long way Saturday night.

The Huskies’ offense is the edge in this matchup. Connecticut is a unique beast, with a ton of movement and off-ball screens — a throwback compared to the pick-and-roll reliant attacks of today.

There’s a term in playoff hockey that “every hit is an investment,” and the same goes for UConn’s screen-heavy playbook.

Illinois’ size will get spread out, and those bigs will clash with constant contact as they chase UConn around for 30 seconds a possession.

The Illini may be able to absorb that for 30 or 35 minutes. But like a boxer landing body blow after body blow, it will take its toll in the championship rounds.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Illinois’ offense relies on offensive rebounds converting into second-chance points (15.9 SCP 4th). However, UConn allows only 8.0 offensive boards and 9.8 SCP per contest.

Illinois vs UConn same-game parlay

Alex Karaban had an off day against Duke, but this pace and half-court style play right into his wheelhouse. The Huskies’ veteran has been a stud in the NCAA Tournament, and his activity will leave Illinois’ bigger defenders in the dust. His projections sit as high as 16+ points.

If Connecticut is going to beat Illinois, it needs a monster game from Tarris Reed - not just on offense but also cleaning the defensive glass and doing damage with offensive boards. His forecasts call for double-digit rebounds Saturday.

Illinois vs UConn SGP

  • UConn +2
  • Alex Karaban Over 13.5 points
  • Tarris Reed Over 9.5 rebounds

Our Big Dance SGP: Indiana Pacers

I have Connecticut coming out on top of a methodical half-court game. However, the two most active players on the floor — in terms of off-ball movement — will find their spots. Karaban had 17+ in each of the first three games of the tournament, while Kylan Bosewell’s strength can body the smaller UConn guards.

Illinois vs UConn SGP

  • UConn Moneyline
  • Under 139
  • Alex Karaban Over 13.5 points
  • Kylan Boswell Over 8.5 points

Illinois vs UConn odds

  • Spread: Illinois -2 | UConn +2
  • Moneyline: Illinois -135 | UConn +115
  • Over/Under: Over 139 | Under 139
