The first game of the 2023 Bahamas Championship today at Baha Mar features one of last season’s Final Four teams, as the Miami Hurricanes take on the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 16-16 season but are hoping that the second season of Mike White as head coach will bring more success. The Hurricanes lost their top two scorers from a 29-8 season but will still be a major force on the offensive end. Which team will handle playing serious basketball in paradise and cover the college basketball odds this week?

Here are our free college basketball picks and predictions for Georgia vs. Miami at the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau, Bahamas on Friday, November 17.

Georgia vs Miami best odds

Georgia vs Miami picks and predictions

The Georgia Bulldogs were mediocre last season but brought in several new players in White’s second season. They are only returning 36.4% of their minutes and 34.1% of their scoring from last year’s roster. That includes their top three scorers.

Georgia started this season with a loss to Oregon on a neutral court by 11 as six-point underdogs. Now they find themselves in a very similar spot as six-point underdogs on a neutral court. However, they did follow up that loss with wins over both Wake Forest and UNC Central at home.

The Bulldogs play a small lineup, as their tallest player who plays more than 20 minutes per game is 6’7”. This has caused some rebounding issues, as they have been outrebounded by an average of 47.3-38.7 per game this year. The one big man who may need to see more time in this matchup is center Russel Tchewa

The seven-foot transfer from USF has averaged 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game this season coming off the bench. However, will he be able to keep up with the quick pace of the Miami Hurricanes? The Hurricanes ranked 25th in scoring and sixth in KenPom’s offensive efficiency last season and have carried that over to 91.7 points per game this season through three games.

While losing their top two scorers, The U has still gotten great production from the next four players from last season’s Final Four lineup and included a solid transfer from rival Florida State. Matthew Cleveland is averaging 17.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game in 32.3 minutes. Big man Norchad Omier is averaging 15.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game this season and will also be a nightmare for the Bulldogs lack of size.

Georgia was projected to be 12th in the SEC this season and they have not looked great to start the year. They are 1-2 against the spread to start the season and I am surprised to see a low spread here in favor of the Canes. Miami has the size advantage and an explosive offense and will be able to light up the scoreboard on the Dawgs.

My best bet: Miami -6 (-110 at DraftKings)

Georgia vs Miami same-game parlay

Miami -6

Over 155.5 points

With limited options for this same game parlay available at the time of writing, we will keep it simple as we add on to our best bet.

We will add just the total and spread together in a parlay for this game. The Hurricanes average 91.7 points per game and have scored at least 86 points in every contest this year. The Bulldogs allowed 82 points to the Oregon Ducks. There is a very good chance that the Canes can finish this game around 85-90 points which makes the Over a good play to add here.

Georgia vs Miami spread and Over/Under analysis

The Hurricanes rank sixth in the country in blocks and 37th in steals. This is going to be trouble for a smaller Bulldogs roster that averages 11.7 turnovers per game. Miami is already a very good offense, so if the Bulldogs turn the ball over and give them even easier opportunities to score, this could get ugly.

While the Canes do have a good defense in terms of aggression and forcing turnovers, they still allow a lot of points due to their pace of play. They allow 71.9 points per game and have allowed 72 points to UCF and 80 points to FIU in their last two games.

Georgia is not a big scoring team but can put up the points in fast-paced games. They scored 71 against Oregon and 80 against Wake Forest. They should be able to score enough here to help hit the Over.
