Nets vs Trail Blazers Picks and Predictions: Portland Keeps Kyrie, Brooklyn in Check

Even with Kyrie Irving on the floor, the Nets are too heavily favored on the road against the Trail Blazers. Damian Lillard is still sidelined, but Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic should keep this within the 10.5-point spread in our NBA betting picks.

The Brooklyn Nets will have Kyrie Irving back in the lineup for their Monday night meeting with the Portland Trail Blazers. The Nets are coming off an overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday afternoon, but Irving’s situation will have them excited to get right back on the road.

Nets vs Trail Blazers picks and predictions

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.

The Nets are going to be energized with Irving back in the lineup, and we’ve seen in the last few weeks that Brooklyn really needs everything the star guard has to offer. Sure, the Nets have Kevin Durant and James Harden, but they need a third offensive creator — especially with Joe Harris out. Not many teams can survive with highly-paid players sitting on the sidelines and the Nets are no exception.

Brooklyn is, however, favored by a bit too many points for a road meeting with Portland. Even with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum sidelined, it’s hard to ask the Nets to win this game by double digits after such a hard-fought win over the Spurs on Sunday. San Antonio took Brooklyn to overtime, where the Nets needed a game-winner from rookie Cam Thomas to ultimately finish the job. Now, these guys should be a little tired after having to hop on a plane and fly to Portland right after.

The Blazers are coming off a 13-point win over the Sacramento Kings. Anfernee Simons was especially impressive, with the young guard finishing with 31 points. He should be able to turn in another good performance here, and Jusuf Nurkic will be his dominant self around the basket. Those two are big reasons why it’s hard to imagine the Blazers getting blown out.

Prediction: Trail Blazers +10.5 (-110)

The first game Irving played this season saw the Nets and the Indiana Pacers combining to score 250 points. This one might not ultimately reach that mark, but it should still be a very high-scoring game. Brooklyn might be a little worse on the defensive end with Irving in the lineup, but the Nets will make up for that with an offense that might be the best in basketball with him active. And considering this Blazers team is a defensive catastrophe, they should put up a big number in this one.

The Over is 8-4 in Brooklyn’s last 12 games, and it’s also 15-3 when the Nets are playing on the road against teams that are outscored by their opponents by at least 3.0 points per game since the start of last season. The average total points scored in the latter situation is 235.8 points per game.

Prediction: Over 228.5 (-110)

The Nets are 11-22 ATS when playing as favorites this season, and they’re 4-13 ATS when coming off a game that went Over the total this year. On top of that, Brooklyn has failed to cover in each of its last six games and it’s difficult to expect this team to go out and win by more than 10 points, Kyrie or no Kyrie.

The Nets have all the talent in the world when Irving is on the floor, but having him in and out of the lineup is going to make it hard for this group to develop true chemistry.

Pick: Trail Blazers +10.5 (-110)
