The start of the Greek Freak era in South Beach has been anything but smooth. It’s only October, but the Heat are desperate for a victory in the stacked Eastern Conference.

My Mavericks vs. Heat prediction backs Miami to finally break through after a disappointing 0-3 start to the Giannis Antetokounmpo era. The Heat have struggled at both ends of the floor, but a Dallas team dealing with key injuries offers a chance to get back on track tonight.

Miami is an 8.5-point home favorite for Monday's 7:30 p.m. ET tip-off at Kaseya Center. I'm taking the Heat to cover, with a same-game combo and Kyrie Irving and Bam Adebayo props also featuring in my latest NBA picks for Oct. 26.

TOP PICK
Mavericks vs Heat prediction: Heat -8.5

With great expectations comes serious pressure. Barely a week into the season, the Miami Heat are still chasing their first win, but this is an opportunity to remind everyone why expectations were so high in the first place.

Miami had only two losing streaks of four games or more in 2025-26, with the first not arriving until Dec. 9. The Heat currently rank 27th in both offensive efficiency (105.1 points per 100 possessions) and defensive efficiency (121.4 points allowed per 100 possessions).

That defensive performance is especially surprising with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, and Davion Mitchell in the starting unit. This group was expected to challenge for a top-five defensive ranking, and I don't expect the early struggles to last.

The Dallas Mavericks aren't arriving at full strength, either. Naji Marshall (illness) is out, while former No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg was questionable Monday morning with a shoulder injury. Dallas went just 4-8 without Flagg during his rookie season, so his status matters.

Miami is 3-1 straight-up in the Mavericks' last four visits and went 26-15 at home last season, despite finishing as the East's No. 10 seed. Meanwhile, Dallas was just 10-30 on the road last year.

I'm comfortable trading the Heat at -8.5 up to 55%. Three losses aren't enough to sound the alarm on Miami's season, and I expect a sharper effort on both ends against a short-handed opponent. Jon Metler also backs Miami in his NBA moneyline picks for Oct. 26, citing Dallas' frontcourt injuries as another concern.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Heat have won eight straight games when entering a home matchup favored by 8.5 points or more, dating back to November 2025. The Mavericks, meanwhile, are 9-41 straight-up as road underdogs of at least 8.5 points over the past three seasons, with six losses in their last seven such games.

Mavericks vs Heat combo

The Heat moneyline is an easier inclusion in this combo than laying the points, considering Dallas' success covering in past encounters.

These teams have also gone Under in four of their last six and six of their last nine matchups. A total of 239.5 is too high for my liking until Miami's offense finds its rhythm.

Then there's Klay Thompson, who's averaging eight 3-point attempts and three makes per game. He's hit at least three triples twice, and even when he made only two, he still took 11 shots from deep. His shooting volume was also a focus of our earlier picks.

  • Heat moneyline
  • Under 239.5 points
  • Klay Thompson Over 2.5 threes

Mavericks vs Heat player props

Mavericks player prop: Kyrie Irving Under 4.5 assists

After sitting out Saturday's loss to San Antonio for injury management, Kyrie Irving is no longer listed on the injury report and is expected to play tonight.

His assists line is 4.5, potentially reflecting Flagg's uncertain status. But Irving has averaged just 2.5 assists through two appearances and hasn't recorded more than three in either game.

Head coach Dusty May is also limiting Irving's minutes as he works his way back from an ACL tear that sidelined him for 19 months. The nine-time All-Star hasn't played more than 25 minutes in a game so far.

With only six potential assists per game and a possible minutes restriction still in place, I like the Under 4.5. You can compare more markets and projections on our NBA player props page.

Heat player prop: Bam Adebayo Under 9.5 rebounds

Rebounding opportunities depend on far more than effort, and Adebayo now has more competition for boards in Miami's frontcourt.

Adebayo has averaged nine rebounds per game across his 10-year career, including 10 last season. Through three games this year, though, he's down to seven, with Antetokounmpo averaging eight and veteran forward Bobby Portis adding 6.7.

Double-digit rebounds are no longer as automatic with that much frontcourt competition. Dallas also ranks 10th in opponents' rebounds allowed at 42.3 per game, giving me another reason to lean Under 9.5.
