Celtics vs Clippers Picks and Predictions: Take the Under as Boston's Road Trip Ends

As the Celtics near the end of a four-game road trip, they play the second half of a back-to-back in L.A. against the Clippers after a loss to the Lakers. The Clippers should smother the Celts while keeping the score low we analyze in our NBA picks.

The Los Angeles Clippers take on the Boston Celtics on Wednesday when Los Angeles will be looking to win its third game in the last four. Jaylen Brown is questionable for the Celtics, and him being banged up certainly helps the Clippers’ cause.

Will Los Angeles deal Boston a loss in this building for the second-straight night? Our free NBA betting picks and predictions for Celtics vs. Clippers have the answers.

Celtics vs Clippers picks and predictions

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.

Whether or not Jaylen Brown is out there for the Celtics, the Clippers look like the right side in this game. After coming up short against the Lakers last night, the Celtics are going to be winded as they near the end of this four-game road trip. They’re also just not performing at a high level on the offensive end — despite many talented pieces — and now run into a Clippers team that is third in the league in defensive rating.

Los Angeles has the luxury of throwing Paul George on Jayson Tatum, and that will significantly impact the Celtics’ chances of running an efficient offense. They can also put Eric Bledsoe on Dennis Schroder, who is normally capable of knifing his way into the paint with regularity. And on the inside, the tenacious Ivica Zubac should give Boston’s bigs some trouble. Robert Williams III is an athletic specimen and Al Horford is a very smart player, but Zubac fights hard on both ends and his style wears opponents down.

Offensively, the Clippers should be able to do just enough to get Los Angeles bettors over the line. Keep an eye on Luke Kennard, who is looking more comfortable than ever in a Clippers uniform. Over the last four games, Kennard is averaging 16.3 points per game.

Prediction: Clippers -3.5 (-110)

The Clippers are coming off back-to-back home games that went Under the total, and the average number of points scored in those games was 197.5. Over the last three years, the Under is 10-7 when the Clippers have allowed 105 or fewer in their previous two games, which is exactly what they’ve done coming into tonight’s game.

This Clippers team is slowing the game down and allowing its defense to win, and it now runs into a Boston team that is a little out of sync on the offensive end. The Under is also 13-6 over the last three years when Boston is coming off three road games in a row.

Prediction: Under 211.5 (-109)

As previously mentioned, the Under is 8-2-1 in Boston’s last 11 road games. It’s also 5-2 in the Celtics’ last seven games following a straight-up loss. In addition to the trends signaling a low-scoring game, it’s also worth pointing out the on-court reasons that stack up against this one going Over.

Los Angeles is currently third in the league in defensive rating, while Boston is 10th. And yet, neither is in the Top 10 in pace. They’re also both outside of the Top 15 in offensive rating. On top of that, this Celtics team has to be tired as it nears the end of this road trip. Overall, the Under is the way to go here — even if it’s an insanely low number.

Pick: Under 211.5 (-109)
