South Point 400 field

A field of 38 cars will take the green flag in the South Point 400, with No. 44 JJ Yeley and No. 78 Katherine Legge joining the 36 full-time Cup Series participants.

Kyle Larson (+500) is one of two Chevrolets at less than +1000 in the pre-qualifying wagering, along with teammate William Byron (+900). Toyota is represented toward the top by Christopher Bell (+550) and Denny Hamlin (+600). As for Ford, it's Ryan Blaney (+850) pacing that pack over teammate Joey Logano (+1000).

Rounding out the playoff drivers are Chase Elliott and Chase Briscoe, both at +1100.

South Point 400 expert picks and predictions

Odds listed below courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook as of 10-11.

South Point 400 pre-qualifying favorites

Kyle Larson (+500)
Kyle Larson has four Top-2 spring race finishes in his last five tries. He was ninth this spring. In the 2023 fall race, Larson swept both stages and led a race-high 133 of 267 laps in victory.

Christopher Bell (+550)
Christopher Bell has five Top-10 finishes in his last eight Vegas starts, including a fifth-place run in the 2023 spring race. He was the runner-up in the last two fall races, leading 61 laps in 2023 and 155 last year.

On the season, Bell has five consecutive Top-7 finishes, including two straight results of third. My only pause is the fact that Toyota is winless in the six races on 1.5 mile tracks in 2025.

William Byron (+900)
He led 10 laps and finished fourth this spring in Vegas, netting him six Top-7 finishes in his last seven Vegas starts.

On intermediate tracks this season, he had four Top-5 finishes, including a pair of runner-up results in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the spring Darlington Raceway event. He led 243 laps in Darlington and 283 at Charlotte.

South Point 400 sleepers

Chase Briscoe (+1100)
While he was 17th this spring, that was only his fifth start with JGR. Briscoe admitted he was relearning how to drive at that point because the JGR Toyota’s handled on intermediate tracks wildly different from the SHR Fords.

That learning paid off.

He was fourth in both Kansas races, third in the Coca-Cola 600, won at both Pocono and Darlington, and was runner-up at Dover with this package.

Ross Chastain (+1400)
Too good to ignore at Vegas, especially after a Kansas win last Fall.

Ross Chastain has five Top-5 finishes in his last seven Vegas tries, including results of third and second in 2022, fourth last spring and fifth this spring. He led 151 laps on this track in 2022 and finished seventh in the 2023 fall race.

Alex Bowman (+3500)
Alex Bowman finished in the Top-3 in two of the last three spring races, including a 2022 win. He seventh this spring and fifth last fall. At Kansas, Alex Bowman finished ninth, fourth, 10th, seventh, sixth, fifth and 28th in the last eight races.

Josh Berry (+3500)
Josh Berry finished last in the last two fall Kansas races, but rebounded to sixth this spring. He did win in Vegas this spring, becoming the first driver to earn his first Cup win at the track.

Daniel Suarez (+9000)
Daniel Suarez finished 11th and third, respectively, last year and runner-up this spring. Last fall, he led 57 laps.

South Point 400 fades

Ryan Blaney (+850)
Ryan Blaney has 10 Top-7 finishes in his last 17 starts in Vegas. While he was sixth in the 2023 fall race and third in the 2024 spring race, his other four Next Gen finishes are 36th, 28th, 13th, 32nd, and 35th.

Joey Logano (+1000)
Joey Logano won the 2022 and 2024 playoff races, but those are his only Top-5 finishes in his last 10 Vegas starts.

Tyler Reddick (+1100)
Tyler Reddick was runner-up in the 2023 spring race but 24th this fall. He also has one intermediate Top-5 finish this entire season.

Chase Elliott (+1100)
Prior to a runner-up in the 2021 playoff race, Chase Elliott had just two career Top-5s on this track. He was 21st and 32nd in 2023 without a lap led or stage point accumulated. Seven of his 16 Vegas finishes are 21st or worse.

South Point 400 prop pick: Denny Hamlin Top 3 Finish

While Denny Hamlin has just one win in 27 Las Vegas starts, he does have four Top-5 finishes in his last nine starts. Hamlin ranks sixth in average rating among active drivers on this course.

Pick: Denny Hamlin Top 3 Finish (+170 at DraftKings)

Las Vegas Motor Speedway track analysis

Las Vegas has become a track that's produced a ton of lead changes lately. It has character with some bumps in the turns and has morphed into a track that can reward pit strategy in the event you can take two tires later, or even gamble with fuel only.

It's no secret, when you come to the four annual stops between Las Vegas and Kansas, you have to go through Hendrick Motorsports and Toyota. A Hendrick Chevy won the last two Kansas races, but it was a Ford in Josh Berry that sprung a massive upset for Wood Brothers at Vegas last spring.

  • There’s only been two polesitters to ever win in Vegas history (34 races). They were Kyle Busch back in 2009, and Kyle Larson in the fall of 2023.
  • The Stage 2 winner went on to win 10 of the 16 races at Las Vegas with stages.
  • Seven of the last eight Las Vegas races had a margin of victory of less than one second.
