Despite a Joe Gibbs Racing victory seeming imminent last weekend, Erik Jones stunned the field by holding off Denny Hamlin to take the checkered flag after Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch were forced out of the running.

As the playoffs continue and the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series odds whittle down to fewer contenders, are we in for another shocker at Kansas Speedway this weekend?

Hollywood Casino 400 pre-race favorites

Denny Hamlin (+600)

Hamlin was denied his third win of the season last week, but heads into Kansas as the co-favorite after finishing fourth there in the spring. Hamlin's a three-time Kansas champ (including this race in 2019) and a superspeedway and road course are his only finishes outside the Top 4 in his past five races.

Kyle Busch (+600)

Busch is also a three-time Kansas winner, including the spring race there this season. And that past track record is what's fueling his favorite status, because it sure as hell isn't his current form. After a standout first half of the season, Busch has bombed over the stretch run, with just two Top-10 finishes (unremarkably ninth and 10th) in the past 12 races.

Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr. (+800)

In a three-way tie for the third choice, we find drivers at a wide variety of statuses this season.

Larson, the defending Cup Series champ, is also the defending champ in this race, and now has an impetus to snag a win in a tightly-packed playoff field.

Elliott was the points leader prior to last weekend and is still the overall odds favorite, but plummeted down to ninth in the standings this week with a disastrous 36th-place finish at Darlington.

And Truex was looking good for his first win of the season at the Southern 500, before engine trouble ended his day — he's still yet to post a Top-3 finish in 2022. Truex won this race in 2017 as part of sweeping the Kansas slate.

How to bet on NASCAR

The most popular way to bet on NASCAR is by simply picking the winner of a race, which is also referred to as an outright. There are plenty of other ways to wager, including betting on whether or not a driver will finish in the Top 3 or Top 10 of a race.

Another popular betting option is head-to-head matchup betting, where sportsbooks pair up two drivers and you choose who you think will finish better in the race, which is far easier than trying to select someone to win out of a field of approximately 40 drivers.
