The Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians play the middle contest of a three-game series at Progressive Field on Tuesday evening.

The Guardians picked up a 3-0 victory against the White Sox in the series opener, halting a three-game losing streak. Cleveland also leveled the season series with Chicago at 2-2.

The White Sox were blanked for the first time since suffering consecutive shutouts in Toronto against the Blue Jays back on April 25-26.

Can the White Sox rebound against their division rivals, or will the Guardians pick up the series win? We’ll discuss in our MLB picks and predictions for White Sox vs. Guardians on Tuesday, May 23.

White Sox vs Guardians predictions

The Guardians posted the 3-0 win over the White Sox in the series opener, as Hunter Gaddis picked up the quality start and victory, allowing just two hits with a walk in six scoreless frames. Emmanuel Clase came on and closed it out after a series of relievers got it to the ninth without any damage.

Mike Zunino had the big knock for the home side, smacking a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was Cleveland’s first shutout victory since disposing of the Minnesota Twins on May 7 by a 2-0 score.

The White Sox have had a bit of a power outage on offense lately, posting just 13 runs across the past five outings, or 2.6 runs per game. On the flip side, Chicago has allowed just 19 total runs in the past nine games, averaging 2.1 runs per game. It should be no surprise that the Under has cashed in five in a row for the Pale Hose, while going 9-2 in the past 11 games overall.

The Guardians hand the ball to LHP Logan Allen, who has posted a 1-1 record with 3.04 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 26 2/3 innings across five starts. He confused the White Sox last time out on Thursday at Guaranteed Rate Field, yielding just a run while scattering seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision. Cleveland is 3-2 in his five starts this season.

The White Sox roll with RHP Dylan Cease, who posted a quality start last time out against the Guardians in opposition of Allen. He allowed three runs, five hits and a walk with three strikeouts across 6 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Cease has struggled on the road, posting a 5.31 ERA, and he is just 0-2 with a 5.64 ERA in four starts in the month of May across 22 1/3 innings.

Roll with Allen and the Guardians at home, as Cease hasn’t been able to get it done on the road. The good news is that the Guardians aren’t too expensive in the MLB odds.

White Sox vs Guardians moneyline analysis

The White Sox have managed to win just three times in the past 16 games on the road, and they have struggled with the twig against southpaws. Chicago is 0-5 in the past five games vs. lefties, while going 0-4 in the past four on the road against them.

The White Sox have managed to win just twice in the past seven games overall against the Guardians, too, while Chicago is 1-4 in the past five on the road against losing teams overall.

For the Guardians, they’re looking to get on track after some recent struggles. Cleveland has won just twice in the past seven games overall, but it is 4-0 in the past four at home against right-handed starting pitchers.

Cleveland has won three in a row at home, and it should be able to get it done against at Progressive Field against Cease, who has had difficulty with consistency away from his own ballpark.

White Sox vs Guardians Over/Under analysis

The ChiSox have cashed the Under in five straight games, including two in a row against the Guardians. The Under is also 5-0 in the past five games against American League Central Division foes, too.

Chicago has also cashed the Under at a 4-1-1 clip in the past six games against left-handed starting pitchers, while going 5-0 in the past five against losing teams.

Cleveland is all about the Under when facing divisional foes, going 10-2-1 in the past 13 games inside the AL Central, while hitting at an 8-0 clip in the past eight games at Progressive Field against right-handed starting pitchers. The Under is 18-6-2 in the past 26 games overall at home, too.

In addition, the Under is 3-0-1 in the past four starts by Allen, including last time out against the White Sox on May 18 when he faced Cease.

I like a Guardians play, matched with the Under for a solid parlay opportunity.

Dylan Cease (2-3, 4.78 ERA): While Cease has posted a 5.31 ERA in 20 1/3 IP across four road starts, he posted a quality start in a hard-luck loss in an Under result against the Guardians last time out. The Under has cashed in the past two starts for the Chicago right-handed starting pitcher, too.

Logan Allen (1-1, 3.04 ERA): The lefty has posted a 1-0 record and 3.38 ERA across 16 innings in three home starts, and he has posted a 0.63 groundout to fly out ratio at Progressive Field. He has allowed three or fewer runs in all five of his starts so far this season, including just the one run over 5 2/3 innings last time out against the White Sox in Chicago.
