The Boston Red Sox staged a seventh-inning comeback to beat the New York Yankees in Game 1 of their AL Wild Card Series last night.
My Red Sox vs. Yankees same-game parlay picks are taking the Bombers' shaky bullpen out of the equation while backing All-Star starter Carlos Rodon to pitch a gem in Game 2 tonight.
I also love the non-correlated multiplier of backing an underrated Red Sox batter to pick up a hit in this SGP. Here are my best free Red Sox vs. Yankees predictions and MLB picks for Wednesday, October 1.
Our best Red Sox vs Yankees SGP for Game 2
- Yankees -0.5 F5
- Rodon Over 5.5 strikeouts
- Refsnyder Over 0.5 total bases
I don't trust the New York Yankees bullpen, but I think they'll get off to a good start and have a lead after five innings over the Boston Red Sox.
New York led the majors in OPS during the regular season (.787), with that number surging to .859 in the final two weeks. Boston had an OPS of .745 during the regular season, with that dipping to .706 in the last two weeks.
Not only do the Yankees have the advantage at the plate, they also have the edge on the mound with All-Star southpaw Carlos Rodon (3.32 expected ERA) going up against Boston's Brayan Bello (4.42 xERA).
Rodon is in the Top 15th percentile of pitchers in whiff rate and the Top 25th percentile in strikeout rate (25.7%). The Red Sox are 24th in the majors in whiff rate while also sitting in the Bottom 10 in strikeout rate against lefties (23.1%).
While I'm betting on a strong game from Rodon, there's a solid chance he'll allow a hit to Boston leadoff batter Rob Refsnyder. Refsnyder hit .302 against lefties this year and has gone 6-for-17 at the dish against Rodon in his career.
