Walker Buehler is third up in a formidable Dodgers rotation - look for him to give the Rockies headaches and keep the score relatively low, even at Coors Field.

MLB sharp money and line movement report

By Patrick Everson

Los Angeles is once again a sizable favorite, this time opening -240 at FanDuel, dipping to -235 a couple of times, then surging to -275 this afternoon. As of 4:45 p.m. ET, the Dodgers are -260 while grabbing 94 percent of tickets and 97 percent of dollars on the moneyline. Perhaps as interesting, L.A. is cleaning up on runline action, getting 91 percent of bets/96 percent of cash laying 1.5 runs at -162. The total opened at 11, surged to 12 by early this morning and is now 11.5 (Over -115), with 54 percent of bets on the Under and 64 percent of money on the Over.

Dodgers vs Rockies betting preview

Starting pitchers

Walker Buehler (2020: 1-0, 3.44 ERA): Buehler is the third starter for the Dodgers, but he’d be the ace for plenty of teams. Not only does he have incredible stuff, he’s also as mentally tough as they come and often comes up big in huge moments. Buehler also tends to strike a lot of batters out, making him a decent match for Coors Field. As long as he is on his game, he shouldn’t be allowing too much contact.

Jon Gray (2020: 2-4, 6.69 ERA): Gray had a rough year in 2020, going 2-4 with a 6.69 ERA. He was once one of the more promising pitching prospects in the Rockies organization, but he has been really inconsistent throughout his career. Can he show up and shut down the Dodgers? Sure. But it’s more likely he gets lit up.

Moneyline pick

It’s always tough to justify taking a team at these odds, but the Dodgers really should get the job done tonight. Buehler has been completely smacked around in Colorado before, but he’s a very, very good pitcher, and getting to face a lineup as weak as the Rockies has to excite him. It wouldn’t be all that surprising if he ends up striking out something like 8-10 batters in this one. The last time we saw him in a real game, Buehler struck out 10 in a win over the Rays in the World Series.

The Dodgers lineup could also pose a whole bunch of problems for Gray tonight. All six of the homers that Gray gave up in the shortened 2020 season came to left-handed hitters, and Los Angeles will likely have Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy out there in this one. All three have some serious pop, so look for them to do damage here. In many ways, Bellinger is due for a homer tonight, and we like his chances to come through for Los Angeles.

PREDICTION: Dodgers ML -235

Over/Under pick

Each of the first two games in this series has gone Over the total, but that run should end in this game. In Buehler’s 13 starts last year, only one game ended up having at least 12 runs scored. And while Gray’s games tend to be high-scoring because of the nature of Coors Field, the Rockies should struggle to hit Buehler tonight. And if Colorado doesn’t do some significant damage on the scoreboard, it’s hard for Los Angeles to hit this number on its own.

PREDICTION: Under 11.5 (-114)
