Cardinals vs White Sox betting preview
Starting pitchers
Jack Flaherty (8-0, 2.53 ERA): Since allowing six earned runs in 4 1-3 innings in his first start of the year, Flaherty has allowed two or fewer earned runs in seven of his last eight starts. He has been downright special for St. Louis this season, as the team is almost guaranteed a quality start whenever he is on the hill.
Lucas Giolito (3-4, 4.35 ERA): Giolito has struggled with consistency this season but he has been pitching a lot better as of late. The righty has given up one earned run in three of his last four starts, with his last outing being arguably his best of the year — Giolito struck out 11 batters in eight innings of work in a 2-1 win over the Twins.

Moneyline pick
Flaherty has pitched nine games for St. Louis this season and the team has won every single one of them. The righty got the decision in all but one of those victories and he’ll now look to avoid his first loss of the season against a very good White Sox team.
This does, however, seem like a tough spot for the 25-year-old. It’s hard to say that Flaherty has really struggled against anybody this season, but lefties are hitting .222 with two homers and nine RBI against him this season, as opposed to righties, who are batting just .156 against him on the year. That means to keep an eye on guys like Adam Eaton and switch-hitter Yasmani Grandal, who has actually hit two homers off of Flaherty in his career.
Giolito should also be feeling somewhat confident coming into this game. On the season, Giolito has a 5.11 ERA in road games but that number goes down to 3.60 at Guaranteed Rate Field. He also has been a lot better in night games this season, which is a bit surprising as he has generally pitched better during the day throughout his career.
Another thing that helps Giolito coming into this game is the fact that he isn’t necessarily worse against any one side of the plate. The righty has had success against left-handed hitters in his career, which is good against a lineup that features switch hitter Tommy Edman and lefty Dylan Carlson at the top of the lineup.
PREDICTION: White Sox (-135)
Over/Under pick
This total opened at 8.0 and has gone down to 7.5 but it’s hard to advise taking the Under in this one. While this matchup features two very good hurlers, it’s difficult to envision two good offenses struggling to score eight runs — especially after the two combined to score only six on Monday.
Look for both of these lineups to wake up a bit tonight. The Over has also hit in four of Chicago’s last five interleague home games against right-handed starters, which is yet another reason to believe in this White Sox lineup going against Flaherty.
PREDICTION: Over 7.5 (-114)
