Blue Jays vs Dodgers player prop picks

Prop #1: Blake Snell Under 6.5 strikeouts

+100 at BetMGM

It seems like a widely held view in this matchup is that we’ll see a bounce-back from Blake Snell. In Game 1 of this series, he was hit fairly hard, allowing five earned runs over five innings.

Perhaps we get a better start than that, but I’m not so sure he lights up the strikeout department. I wrote in my World Series preview that the Toronto Blue Jays needed to split the first four games of this series to have a real chance to win. It was a little unconventional, but they got the job done. The reason I thought this was attainable is because of the juxtaposition of pitchers like Snell.

Throughout his career, Snell has posted impressive strikeout numbers, and this season is largely no different, with a strikeout rate in the Top 15th percentile of baseball. It comes with a caveat, though — it’s highly reliant on getting chases from hitters outside the zone. As I wrote then, I’ll write now: not only does this Jays team not strike out, they simply don’t chase or miss on pitches either. This number feels about a full strikeout too high.

Prop #2: Alejandro Kirk Over 0.5 hits

-150 at BetMGM

In my World Series preview, I gave out Alejandro Kirk to win MVP at 50/1, and after a strong four games, he’s been bet down to +750. The reason why? He represents why I gave the Jays a shot in this series to begin with. In a team full of hitters that rarely strike out, his ability to avoid that may be the best.

After a hitless night last night, I expect Kirk to bounce back because he’s done that throughout this postseason. He hasn’t gone back-to-back games without a hit yet in the 15 games the Jays have played in the playoffs, and stands a good chance to keep that streak going. As I highlighted above, this is a good matchup for Kirk against a chase-reliant pitcher when Kirk has just an 11.7% strikeout rate and one of the highest chase-contact rates among Jays hitters.

Kirk went 3-for-3 off Snell to open this series, and a big reason for that was his ability to hit the fastball well. Snell will have worked on some aspects of his pitch mix to clean things up, but I don’t think we’ll see a veteran pitcher depart much from a pitch that makes up 44% of his arsenal this season. That’s a win for Kirk.

Prop #3: Mookie Betts Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

-140 at BetMGM

It’s been a quiet World Series for Mookie Betts and a quiet postseason overall, especially by his standards. That said, I think he has a good chance to have his best World Series game tonight.

Betts got a hit off Trey Yesavage in the opener of this series, and it came off the fastball. That’s not much of a surprise either. Shohei Ohtani takes the highlights for obvious reasons when it comes to punishing heaters, but Betts has actually had the most success against them this season.

He leads the Los Angeles Dodgers in expected batting average, expected slugging percentage against the heater, and also grades out quite favorably against it in virtually any other metric. I suspect he’ll see a fair amount of it tonight. Yesavage has thrown it just over 45% of the time this season, and he’s already shown numerous times this postseason that he’s not going to stop throwing it simply because of the matchup.

This play comes down to a few things: 1. Mookie has been far too quiet for too long in this series 2. He’ll see a good dosage of pitches that he’s had success against.
