We could be due for an unlikely pitchers' duel today with the Los Angeles Dodgers sending Tyler Glasnow to the mound, while the Toronto Blue Jays counter with Eric Lauer, who’s been a major surprise in their rotation.
Lauer owns a 2.59 ERA with a 0.98 WHIP through 18 appearances this season, including 12 starts.
He’s allowed two or fewer runs in all but two starts this season, and has tamed some really good lineups along the way. He's allowing just a .205 opponent batting average while keeping the ball in the yard, giving up only eight homers over 80 innings of work this season.
That’ll come in handy against the Dodgers, who have feasted on the long ball in this series and have the league's highest fly-ball percentage.
To hit the Over, Lauer has to throw at least 5 2/3 innings. He’s done this in three of his last four starts, seeing his pitch count reach the upper 90s in a number of recent outings.
The Jays also taxed the bullpen last night, using four relievers in the loss. A long outing from Lauer would be welcomed.
Additionally, the Dodgers' offense was performing rather pedestrian-like prior to this series, averaging just 4.1 runs per game, with a .245 team average and a 24.7% strikeout rate since the All-Star break.

I’ll continue to back Lauer in my SGP and take the Over of 3.5 strikeouts today. He’s gone over that number in 10 straight starts, averaging 5.5 Ks per game in that stretch.
For the final leg of my SGP, I’ll take Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to go Over 1.5 total bases. He’s 5-for-14 against Glasgow in his career, with two extra-base hits for an OPS of 1.143.
