Brice Turang has been one of the most consistent hitters in baseball through the first chunk of the season.

My Astros vs. Brewers predictions expect Turang’s success at the plate to continue, and for him to serve as a catalyst in an advantageous matchup against Ronel Blanco. Let’s take a closer look at my MLB picks for May 5.

Astros vs Brewers prediction

My Astros vs Brewers best bet: Brice Turang Over 0.5 runs (+112 at Caesars)

Brice Turang is a hit machine, recording at least one knock in a whopping 79% of his games this season. His hit rate increases to an unbelievable 88% in Milwaukee. Turang is especially dominant against right-handed pitchers. He’s sporting a .346 batting average vs. righties, and his underlying metrics are equally as impressive.

His barrel rate of 12.3% is nearly double the average, his 84% contact rate is well above league average, and a xwOBA of .403 leads all Milwaukee Brewers hitters.

Also working in Turang’s favor: Ronel Blanco is a completely different pitcher against left-handed batters. Blanco has held righties to a .180 average this season, but lefties — like Turang — have rung him up for a .263 average.

Against lefties, Blanco has thrown more balls than strikes, posted a sky-high 15% walk rate, struck out fewer than 10% of opposing hitters, and allowed an OPS of .917. Those numbers are downright horrendous.

Whether Turang continues his hit parade or earns a free pass against a pitcher with severe walk issues vs. lefties, he’s likely to get on base a time or two. With the likes of William Contreras and Christian Yelich batting right behind Turang, I like his chances of being cashed in.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Astros vs Brewers same-game parlay (SGP)

Brice Turang Over 0.5 runs

Christian Yelich Over 0.5 hits

Ronel Blanco Under 5.5 strikeouts

Yelich is only hitting .219 against right-handed pitchers this season, but the numbers suggest he deserves a lot more. He has hit the ball hard 53% of the time, more than 10% higher than the league average. Yelich has also posted a strong .372 xwOBA and an expected batting average of .269.

Simply put, Yelich is making plenty of hard contact, but the ball hasn’t found holes. That will change if he continues to put good wood on it. Yelich is a very strong hitter at home — last season, he hit safely in 76% of games — and the splits favor him in this matchup. Look for his luck to change against Blanco.

Lastly, we’re targeting Blanco’s Under in the strikeout market. He went over his strikeout line in just 29% of road games last year, and he’s piled up only four Ks through two road dates this year. Blanco owns a sub-10 % strikeout rate vs. left-handed batters, and the Brewers are likely to throw four his way.

The Brewers also have some righties in their lineup — notably Contreras and Joey Ortiz — who are good at working pitch counts and are striking out well below league-average rates. There aren’t many easy punchouts for Blanco in this lineup. When you factor in his road woes, it seems a good matchup to fade Blanco.
