Why Did People Vote For Him?

Was it his immigration stance???? Instead of deporting thousands of illegals, we are housing them in detention centers while also paying other countries to incarcerate them. How's that working out?

Was it his economic appeal? Prices in almost every economic area are higher now. His tariffs have antagonized our trading partners & that revenue has gone back to corporations not back to citizens who paid for the tariffs.

Was it his stance on cultural issues? Right off the bat he's a racist sexual sexual predator & treats all women like they are just pieces of meat. We allowed him to divide us to a point we can't have a decent discussion regarding how we clean up this mess & prosecute those who took advantage of the dumbest president in history. He's the proverbial bull in a China shop.  

Was it his phony anti-establishment rhetoric? The Swamp has never been so full of scumbags just like him. His tax breaks have gone to the rich. His attacks against the media are a daily puke show.

Was it his "no new wars promise? How's that working out? This imbecile believes he's stopped 8 wars. He's delusional. He's no fighter. He's a whiny little coward.

Why go any further? Except for sundance, all of his supporters have fled this forum. Instead of just admitting they fucked up by voting for this POS, they have jumped off the sinking ship. 

Let's see if anyone tells us why they voted for him. Come out come out wherever you are.

I live in a heavy heavy right leaning community but I'll be manning our local polling site from & 7 AM to 1 PM tomorrow. Police will be onsite & that is a terrible requirement  we all created. 

People are lazy and stupid, there is a giant swath of the country who will vote in one direction no matter the candidate and base their decisions off religious conservative personal agendas. Those people voted against the LGBTQ lies that the GOP spun, the lies about DEI, the blame about the economy, the lies about illegals served up as Hatians eating cats and dogs and swans. People voted based on the 100% lies Trump spun about crypto, about the coal industry and farmers being promised freebies.

Those same people are making excuses and deflecting as a means of avoiding truth regarding what a failure Trump is and has been. You cannot teach truth and facts to people who have religious and ultra conservative agendas as their personal agendas are more important than the burning country we are dealing with right now.

Human nature will not change and the only way to stop this from happening again is for the DNC to forward a balanced candidate and stop scrambling for the fringes which alienates too many conservatives that are needed to win an election.

For many people, Trump disqualifications to be president seem obvious.  But there are 4 reasons some people vote for the worst president in US history.  Right wing media distortion mislead voters.  Xenophobia or anti-immigration extremism.  Nostalgia for low inflation economy Trump inherited from Obama.  Cult of leader or misperception of Trump as an infallible savior of US in national decline.  However unlike first term, Trump dismantled restraints against his worst impulses. Now the real Trump does whatever the hell he wants in second term.  Polls show most people see Trump as worst than Biden.

This very question baffles me every single day.

Unless you are a multi millionaire or billionaire, how can any person no matter what party you belong to, getting anything from this Presidency. What exactly are trump supporters actually getting from trump to improve their lives. Is deporting immigrants to countries jails that they have no connections to, get your rocks off?  Are trump supporters not paying the same prices for everything all of us are paying for or do they not care about the prices of anything?  Is their only care that trump keeps being vile and insult everybody? Are they happy trump is robbing our govt piggy bank. like it belongs to him?  Do you not care that the guy who said no wars, now is trying to start wars everywhere. Threatening countries all over the place. Just look at all the financial laws trump has gotten rid of that now make it easier for the rich to just rob us blind. Lets make money laundering great again, trumps new slogan

The list of bad things hes doing, can go on and on.  I really want to know what a loyal trump supporter is thinking and why they still love this guy.

For many in flyover country, it was the belief the economy would benefit. To be fair, not as many conservatives believed in his economic policy as you would think.

Anti-immigration rhetoric was a huge part of it. Immigration will always play a role in presidential elections.

I think one of the biggest factors, though, was the promise of no new wars. And that was a boldface lie. Politicians tell lies all of the time but this is different. This has become a sea change moment. The question now is, where do we go from here? How do we pick up the pieces?

Mass deportation is unlikely to reduce crimes and boost economy.  Immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than US born citizens.  Cities with increased immigration often have lower crime rates.  Without immigration, US would face shrinking work force, slower economic growth and less tax revenue to fund public services.  Since deaths would outpace births, immigration is critical to sustaining US population growth.

Inflation is obviously down from Biden's high.  In his first term he had the lowest first-term cumulative inflation since Kennedy, close to 7.25%.  Even Clinton, Bush, and Obama were over 8%, or very close, in their first terms.

Biden had a cumulative inflation rate of almost 21%.

Interest rates are not at 20+ year highs.  As recently as 2, 3, 4 years ago the effective Fed funds rates were from 4.25 - 5.50%. They have dropped to around 3.63%, which is between the 3.5 - 3.75% that the Fed has decided to maintain. 

Even mortgage rates were slightly higher in 2023, -34, -25ish.

There are many, many things in the economy that are already better under Trump and several that are turning around.

Even real-wage growth was higher under Trump's first term than any other than any President since Clinton's second term at around 5% compared to 1.4%, 4.0, 1.9% for Biden, Obama, and Bush.  For example, the weekly earnings adjusted for inflation is up 1.3%.

The economy grew at 2.1% in the first quarter, which matched the 2025 full-year growth.

The trade deficit is down around 18% compared to 2024.

There are close to 6M fewer people that are using federal food assistance.

Sure, there are certainly things that still need work to turn around completely -- employment, housing, debt, etc.

The one other issue that is well worth noting is that Trump was not given two consecutive terms to turn the economy around.

If he had been given a second term and was allowed to continue the good economic work from his first term there is little doubt that the economy would not be in the dire straits that Biden left it in.

So, essentially, now he is having to gain traction once again and establish policies to get the economy back to where it was.

Whether he is able to do that effectively without Congress doing much to help him -- time will tell.

 Trump had full send ZIRP his first term, that is a crutch he does not have now even with his stupid jawboning about Jerome as if he can nominate someone and get what he wants while causing inflation himself.

I love how you completely ignore and wash over the inflation he caused and try to laughingly compare it to a global covid supply chain implosion. Trump caused this inflation 100% and this will stick for a decade as the flow through of high oil prices cycles through AND the impacts of this stupid war. Covid was not a Biden issue he did not cause Covid and he did not cause supply chain issues in Asia while all current inflation outside of AI chips and the impacts of that demand is squarely on Trump.

 Rates are not at 20 year highs.

Trump's cumulative inflation is still the lowest.

Real-wage growth is still the highest.

He has made good strides in turning around Biden's economy.

He still has a bit to go to get it back to where he had it the first term.

But anyone that does not acknowledge that Trump is better for the economy than Biden and better than Harris would have been is delusional or disingenuous.

That clown Bessent is trying a twist game to scheme interest costs lower but it wont work the deficit is too high and short rates are not largely better to take the risks he is suggesting. 

The sole fact that Harris/Biden would NEVER have gotten suckered by Netty as Trump did is reason alone I would back her cackling liberal flaws to what Trump has done in harm via oil prices, massive federal spending on a useless war and a total lack of GDP growth given the enormous spending he is forwarding while cutting on the spend which impacts the little guy and the retiree.  Real wage growth means what when inflation outstrips wage growth?

Nothing with the concept itself.  That is the very distinction between nominal wage growth and real wage growth.

So, 'Real-wage growth' takes into account the inflation.  In other words if inflation outpaces 'nominal-wage growth' then real wages are falling.  If the opposite is true then they are rising.

Hence, why Trump's real-wage numbers are positive.

Not sure what is meant by this. GDP is growing and Trump had more than Obama before the Pandemic.  Biden's numbers were obviously, therefore, inflated during the recovery. Trump also has gotten it back to where he had it before the Pandemic in this term.

So, it is certainly growing.  It is not back to the post-Reagan numbers.  But it is pretty much in line with post-2000 type numbers.  

For sure there was not as much growth last Q but it does not appear to be dropping off further at this point.
