Sure, he gets credit for anticipatory drops in energy prices. I wrote about this before he was inaugurated and after because I was in huge energy positions at that time.
But I would not say prices should be at $8. A while different dynamic would have to play out for that to happen that would in include a lot of factors.
I would not worry too much about prices going that high or that they would cause widespread bankruptcies even if they did. Yes, it certainly affects businesses and such but nothing leads me to see lots of bankruptcies because of it.
I have also written about the folks simply being disillusioned with the same old politicians — from either party. If there is no dynamic candidates with fresh messaging — the turnout will still be low.
The issue is that approval is low for politicians in general. There are several reasons for that. Folks nowadays expect quick results and do not have the patience for policies to work. The 24/7 news coverage is far more interested in spreading negative messaging. Both sides get ‘reinforcement’ negative messaging from the media sources they watch/read.
But when folks do not trust the institutions nor the people that run them it is very easy to be negative.
I have said that the problem is Trump makes it easy to run against him and by default any Republican.
The broader problem is that the Republicans have been doing very, very poor job of positive messaging.
They need to be pointing out the positive things that have changed since Trump got in office and pointing out the good things that are going on in the economy.
People nowadays also lack critical thinking skills and so it needs to be broken down and shown exactly what the positives are instead of implying that if they don’t win negative things will happen.
They need to try to rejuvenate the folks that are anxious to vote for something positive and differentiate their candidates from the trite politicians of old. Younger and more energetic candidates are needed.
